Conner's POV
I threw the knife at the rouge's head in anger.
What am I angry about?
The fact that my best friend just found his mate and I still didn't! We've been waiting to find our mates for two years, ever sense we turned eighteen and first shifted. I still haven't found my mate, but Aiden, my best friend and Beta, found his yesterday. She's the foreign exchange student who came here, to Texas, from her lovely apartment in London. Why she would do that, I have no idea. But now Aiden has his other half, Mia. The girl he is destined to love, cherish, and most importantly, protect.
I have nobody. I have nobody to love, cherish, or protect. But when I do find her, I will never let her go. She is mine to keep, mine to own, and mine to keep safe from all harm.
An ear shattering scream rung through my skull, bringing me out of my thoughts. I looked over across the hall of cages to see another rouge, a woman, screaming at the sight of the rouge she trespassed in my territory with, have a silver knife sticking out of his head from in-between the eyes. I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
"What? What are you screaming at?" I roared at her. She pushed her back farther against the stone wall and shook her head and tears came streaming down her face.
"You... are a monster," she whispered with hatred laced in her voice. "You just killed my mate. Why would you kill him? Why? He did nothing wrong! You just came down here and killed the first person on sight!" she started to scream. Red started to rim my eyes. That man deserved to die. He got him and his mate locked in my cages. He should have done everything in his power to protect his mate, the gift given to him by the moon goddess. Not just bring her along with him through the forest risking her safety. I would never bring my mate out of the house let alone bring her through the forest. I will never risk her safety unlike the dirty rouge who I just killed!
I turned back to the woman and shook my head and a smirk formed on my face.
"Well, he deserved to die if he isn't going to treat you like the gift you are. Your pathetic excuse for a mate never deserved to be here on this earth. And if you think you can just get away with calling me those names then you are mistaken!" I shouted pulling another silver knife out of the pouch of weapons hung on the dungeon walls and threw it right between her eyes, just like I did to her so called mate.
I turned around and saw all the other rouges pushing themselves into the back corner of their cells, not daring to breath in order to try and hide from me.
Joke's on them, half of them were going to be dead within the next five minutes. I took another silver knife and started to walk towards another random cell when I got a mind link from my brother, Lewis, who is also my Gamma.
'Conner, there is a rouge detected at the edge of the forest, near the border but still in our territory. Should we go check it out?' I huffed out in annoyance, threw the silver knife at the rouge, and stomped out of the dungeon before answering him.
'Check it out. Do you know how many?' I asked.
'No.'
'Then bring a good amount of our warriors, we can never be too prepared.'
Lewis agreed to it and left me alone as I went upstairs and changed into sweatpants and a fitted V-neck shirt on.
I went downstairs to get to my office and I saw Aiden and Mia curled up on the couch watching a movie. Mia laying down on Aiden's stomach and Aiden was playing with her long brown hair. I huffed some air out of my nose in order to not to disturb them. I already told Aiden that it didn't bother me that he found his mate before I did and I told him it wouldn't change anything.
Yeah... Well I was wrong. It does bother me. It bothers me a lot! I need a mate. I really want my mate! He has something so precious to him and I don't. I glare at him until I reach my office and close the door, making the room officially sound proof.
That's when I lost all control.
I picked the desk up, leaving all of the papers and files sliding off the surface and landing in messy piles on the floor and I threw the desk across the room. The four legs of the desk broke off and the table surface of the desk snapped in two.
I strode over to the same wall I just threw the desk into and punched it repeatedly. Leaving many, and I mean many holes in the wall. I started to break every pencil in the holder and when I ran out of pencils, I started to break pens. Once everything in my office, except for my paperwork, was destroyed, I got a mind link from Lewis which I could barely hear over all the destruction I was doing in my office.
'It's just a girl around the age of seventeen or eighteen. No big deal,' he said and the connection broke. I just stood there and a pull made me want to go to where they were and see the rouge. My wolf started to tell me that we should go to where my brother was and I didn't know why. I just felt like I needed to.
I ran out of the office and started to exit the house.
"Where are you going?" Aiden called after me while pausing the movie. I looked over to him and waved a hand in the air telling him not to bother.
"Just going to check out a rouge trespassing on our territory, no big deal," I responded.
"Do you want me to come?"
"No, it's fine. Stay here with your mate." Aiden's face lit up as I said this and pulled Mia closer to him and turned the movie back on.
'Thank you,' I heard him say to me through the mind link. I nodded my head in his direction when I saw him looking at me.
'You're welcome.' I then opened the door and went over to the forest. I went behind a tree, took off my clothes, and shifted into my pitch-black wolf with silver-tipped ears. I started to trot over to where Lewis is supposed to be and then my wolf instantly picked up the pace until I was sprinting. When I got closer to where Lewis and the other warriors were supposed to be, I saw them all traveling together in their human form back towards the pack house. They all had blood on their hands and satisfied looks on their faces.
I looked over to Lewis, who was leading the group, and saw a small, tiny girl with blonde hair. There was so much blood on her, it was practically covering every inch of her body. I went behind a tree, shifted back into my human form, and slid on the pair of sweatpants I tied around my ankle from when I shifted a few minutes ago.
Just then the most amazing scent hit my nose. It smelled of chocolate and vanilla. Two complete opposite flavors which clashed together in perfect unison. I looked over at my brother again and looked at the girl laying in his arms. The smell was coming from her.
"MATE!"
My wolf was going crazy with so many mixed emotions. Happy and joy that we have finally found our mate and pure anger, outrage, and hatred for my brother holding her in HIS arms.
I ran forward towards my brother and punched in him the nose. Before he fell to the ground I ripped my tiny, certainly injured and hurting mate out of his hands. I held her close, my skin burning at the feeling of her blood on my chest. I hate feeling my mate's blood on me, knowing that I had done nothing to stop this from happening.
She was unconscious and whimpering. I put my head near her ear and started to run through the forest going as fast as my human form would let me.
"It's okay babygirl, stay with me. Stay with me. They can't hurt you anymore. I'm right here. Please don't leave me. Please don't leave me," I cooed into her ear repeating the last line over and over. I had just found her and I am not going to let her leave me.
Not now.
Not ever.
