So, book clubs on WattPad don't always work out for you. Partners bail, clubs die, and you don't want to read ONLY a bunch of first chapters - or only get comments on YOUR first chapters. Not to mention, most clubs have strict rules about what genres they will and won't accept, or how many chapters your book can have, etc. That makes it difficult to pick only one club and stick with it - but you don't want to join too many different clubs and get inundated with too many commitments!

Bookshelf Book Club aims to solve the problem by being flexible, open, and points-based. Choosing your assignment is just as simple as choosing a book off the shelves in your favorite book store. You're welcome to choose any book and read any number of chapters to get credit towards feedback on your own book.

Before your book becomes eligible for commentary, you must comment on a cumulative amount of two chapters (from any combination of eligible books) per number of chapters in the book you want to use in the book club. You have to give before you can receive. This is also why we're able to be so flexible - there is no reason to restrict the genre, age level, or even language of the eligible books. People are free to stick with a book they like for as long as they want, or stop and read another book.

Eventually, we're hoping to build a welcoming and active community where members will want to return when they come out with new works. We encourage returning comments when possible (though it's not required), and being active can lead to other benefits (such as having your book chosen for "book of the month" worth double points, etc.)
