The same feeling of indolence came upon the ginger haired girl as she stepped her feet on the famous Kingston High, greeted by the same view of kids around her age prepared their best to face the reality called high school. It was the first day back to school, and it was such a relief to Willa Anne Morris for this was her last first day of school.
Everybody had their own opinion when it came to the term 'High school'. Some might think it was the best four years of their lives—where ones would get excited to learn, maintaining good grades and preparing for college, taking parts in school communities, volunteering, making experiences through social activities, be a part of school's sport teams. Yet in Willa's case, it was just an obligation of life, a way to make parents happy that their child had an education she deserved.
"Good morning," Someone engulfed the ginger haired girl in a side hug, making her eyes went wide in surprise. The same vanilla scent made its way to her nose. The scent she recognized very well which belong to none other than her dearest best friend, Angela Hart.
"Morning to you too,"
"Looks who showed up on the first day of school," a deep voice rang through Willa's ears, making her rolled her eyes. She instantly recognized the person, the one person who always pick a fight with her—the one who happened to be Angela's twin brother, Rafael Hart.
As much as she didn't want to deal with Rafael, she couldn't do anything because the twins were a package deal. When you be friends with one, you had to be friends with the other. In Willa and Rafael's case it wasn't even close to a term called friends. She just called it a frenemy situation.
"Welcome back, guys!" Someone playfully patted Rafael's back, startled him. The three of them titled their head promptly only to find a black-haired boy greeting them with his iconic gummy smile, Brandon Jansen.
He also the bubbliest person they knew exist.
"Yeah, the first day of school is the most festive day in all school calendar, my soul should explode in jubilant about now," Willa rolled her eyes. Before she could say anything, Angela linked her arm to Willa's and dragged her to their homeroom followed by the boys two steps behind them.
BJ let a laugh as he knew something sarcastic would come out of Willa, "you need to be excited a little bit, this is your last year at high school after all."
"The sooner it ended, the better. I didn't have to study anymore," Willa answered, more in a flat tone this time.
"How about college?" Angela asked. Instead of speaking, she shrugged as an answer. The thought of continuing her study never crossed Willa's mind. At least not until now.
The four of them went to the same homeroom—just like they did three years ago. As they were about to walk inside the classroom, Willa turned her head, looking at the two boys behind her and asked, "why are you still here?"
"Because this is my homeroom class?" Rafael responded, smirking at her. BJ widen his eyes in surprise which later changed into amusement as he squealed, "Wow, we're in the same homeroom. Finally, after three years!"
"Seriously? I was happy not getting into the same homeroom as him for the past two years!" Willa said in a tone full of regret as they pick their seats, "this year is surely going to be a hell of a roller coaster."
"Oh, come on, don't exaggerate," Rafael rolled his eyes at her sarcastic remark.
"What do you expect, you're not easy to deal with,"
"Hey! That hurt, Winnie," Rafael acted hurt, making Willa rolled her eyes, "stop that."
Angela just sat there, listening to her best friends and twins bickering like there was no tomorrow. BJ flashed her an understanding smile. Their homeroom teacher came, making the class filled with dead silence. The day began with recording attendance and giving important announcement.
"Alright class, now since you all are a senior, I want you to write an essay about how do you feel about being a senior, what experience, lessons that you had throughout three years of high school and please do write about your hope for the future,"
The class let out different reactions. Some are excited and happy, the other groans as they didn't know what to write, some think it was not a big deal yet they still had to write the essay.
Willa widened her eyes in surprise as she didn't know what to write. For the past three years, she only came to school and after the last bell rang, she went straight to Tasty, the dessert shop that her parents owned, to help them ran the shop. She barely joined school activity except the mandatory ones. The case is different from her three other friends whom barely came home right after the bell rang.
Rafael took part in Kingston high's basketball club which required to practice every single day. He sometimes came to school early to do a morning practice. In the meantime, Angela joined students club, laboratory activities as she always drove a car together with Rafael—a package deal. Last one, BJ. He joined music club and be a volunteer every once in a while.
"This needs to be done on Friday," Before the students could protest, the bell rang, calling all the student to move to their next class, "you're dismissed."
