It really does suck to be me. Sometimes I wonder how I still live another day with the life I have right now. Just imagine it: your parents died two years ago in a car accident. your boyfriend broke up with you, your 19 year old sister is now struggling with two jobs just to pay for the rent, and you have to go through all the name calling at school, because you have good grades and always listen to the teacher. That's exactly what I'm going through.
Now that my parents died, monday mornings are always very quiet in our house. It used to be fun and exciting because they would always wake Brianna and I with the smell of pancakes and sausages every morning. Now that they're gone, it feels like a part of me is missing. Erasing the thoughts, I got up from my bed and began to make my way towards the bathroom.
I took a shower, combed my hair, and got dressed. Looking in the mirror, I smiled at myself remembering the good times when my mom would always drown me with compliments after I got ready. I sighed as the memory faded, then grabbed my backpack, and walked downstairs to the kitchen.
Brianna was seated on a bar stool, eating what looks like corn flakes while keeping her attention to the back of the cereal box.
"Good morning." I cheerfully said, pulling my reminiscing behind me. She jumped a little before answering.
"Oh gosh, you freaking scared me." Her hand was now on her chest.
"Sorry" I laughed. I grabbed a bowl then poured milk and cereal inside it.
"Okay I'm done, so hurry up. I think Lucy's waiting for you" Bree yelled. She had already finished her food, and was standing near the door.
Lucy's one of my best friends. She usually picks me up for school because she knows that my sister uses ,the one car we have for work.
"I haven't even started!" I yelled back.
"I don't care just hurry up!" she yelled again. I sighed heavily, and decided to ditch breakfast. I left the food on the table and grabbed my stuff. When I was finally at the door I opened it and walked outside. The smell of flowers filled my nose, and the sound of music- wait, music? I turned my head to see where it was coming from.
Ugh, it was our neighbors. They're always loud, and obnoxious when it came to mornings and evening's, but there was nothing we could do. I'm not the type of girl that could stick up for myself, so I do my best to ignore them. I sighed and walked towards Lucy's car. I got in and smiled at her 'you-take-forever' face.
"Hey Luc" I smiled. She rolled her eye's and turned on the engine. Her face was still looking annoyed.
"I love you Hailey, but seriously, you take forever in the mornings" she complained. We both put on our seat belt, and then she began driving.
"Hey, don't blame me. My alarm clock was set on a different time."
"Sure" she rolled her eyes again. It was quiet for a moment, until she said something.
"So how's everything with Brianna?" She asked, still keeping her eye's on the road.
"She's doing fine. I mean, she's still working for two jobs and her boyfriend's helping out, so...yeah she's good. The only problem is that we still haven't completely finished paying for her college." I told her. It makes me sad to know that my sister works so hard just to have a shelter over our heads, and to have food on our plates. She doesn't deserve to have so much responsibility at her age.
"Well lucky for you," she said while opening her purse and grabbing a stack of money. "I have something that will pay most of it off." She smiled, but I didn't. I was definitely not going to take money from her again. I almost choked on air when I saw the stack of bills.
"No," My head was shaking left to right. "I'm not taking the money. You know I don't like taking money from you."
"It's not really taking it if I'm giving it to you."
"Still not taking it." I told her again.
"Oh come on, I saved all my shopping money just so you could have it. Please take it. I want to help you." she said. That's why I love Lucy, she's always looking out for me. No one has the heart like she does. I gave her a heavy sigh.
"Thank you" I grinned.
"No problem. Besides what are bestfriends for?" she winked. I laughed at how cliche it sounded, and rested my head on the window watching as the cars went by.
5 minutes later, were now parked outside of the school building. We both got out of the car, and walked inside.
When I got to my locker I opened, it and got all the stuff I need for the next class.
"Hey, I'm going to class to finish some extra credit, so I'll see you at lunch." She said. I waved goodbye, then continued getting all my stuff. When I was done I turned around, and nearly bumped my head against a wall? Or a-OH MY GOD. This can't be happening. My eyes were surely popping out of their sockets when I looked up and saw his face.
I can't believe I ran into Asher Canon. THE ASHER CANON. The ridiculously hot bad boy in school. I've heard a lot of rumors saying that he's a good fighter, and that he's dated almost all the girls in this school. To know that this is actually happening made my heart be-
"Watch were you're going, nerd" He growled. Wow; so much for first impressions.
"Sorry," I said"But it wasn't completely my fault" I mumbled to myself. He must of heard just by the way he cocked his head.
"What did you just say?" he asked, making me wish I had never talked.
"It was nothing" I stammered, nervously beyond belief and embarrassed.
"Don't play stupid with me, just tell me what you said." He said moving closer.
"It's not a big deal, anyways." I said, trying to keep my eye's of him. He was hot, but rude. Instead of apologizing, he blamed it all in me. But I couldn't be mad at him. Everything about him makes it impossible to hate him.
The bell rang, signalling that class was starting. "I'm still waiting." He smirked. Gosh, why was he so determined to know what I said? Why not just get over it.
"Just leave me alone" I begged searching for another way around his body. People were already exiting the hallway for class. I'm supposed to be joining them, but no,but no I just had to say something. His eyes traveled my body up and down, making me blush. Hey I couldn't help it, no one ever looked at me like that.
Feeling pleasantly uncomfortable, I slowly backed up, ignoring the smirk on his face.
"Come on sweet heart, I don't bite" His husky voice made it so hard to look him in the eye. He was just so...so scary. Every step he took, I took a step back, but sadly my back hit the wall. Great now I'm trapped. He leaned in closer to me making us only a few inches apart. Breathing was starting to get hard, but it felt like he was breathing for me. His cool minty breath clouded my mind.
His smouldering eyes made contact with mine, but I looked away.
"Stay out of my way, and I'll stay out of yours." he whispered in my ear. Then he walked away leaving me shocked with bulging eyes. What have I gotton myself into?
