PROMOTIONS CONTEST [Oct. 2014]

This is the Promotions October 2014 contest for all authors! Do you think you have what it takes to make it to the top? Get excited, because we're offering massive prizes and the opportunity to make it big!

This month, we're asking you to write a short story or one-shot about whatever you want. By short story, we mean a word count of anywhere between 100 to 10,000 words (approximately)! If you submit a full-length novel, we will NOT take your submission into consideration. This is a contest geared specifically towards short stories.

You may submit as many entries as you'd like, but you must submit them between September 10th and October 30th of 2014. You may not enter short stories you completed before 2014. Priority in judging will be given to authors who wrote their short story after September 1st for timeliness. 

You may not submit a collection of short stories. Please separate all your entries into different works.

The deadline to enter is October 31st, 2014, and winners will be announced within one week of the deadline! 

There will be three categories for winners, each with one winner:

BEST WRITING

BEST PLOTLINE

OVERALL BEST

The two subwinners will choose one prize between a free cover, a thorough editing session for one of their chapters, or a month-long promotion in our description. The winner of the overall best will be given all three and will be offered the option to guest judge for the next contest. All three winning stories will permanently go on a reading list reserved for winners' stories.

In choosing the winners, we will not be taking into account the length or genre. If you want to write a fanfiction, please include enough background detail so that a reader who's never seen/read the original movie/show/book would understand what was going on.

To get more reads for your story, you may promote it in the comments in the next chapter labeled "Promote". Please do not promote your story in the comments for this chapter. If you're planning to enter the competition, please vote on this chapter so that we can gain an idea of how many people are entering. If not enough people enter, the competition will be called off, so do remember to spread the word to friends and fellow Wattpadders!

This contest is open to anybody, regardless of follow count or popularity. Entries will not be judged by the author profile, but by the author's talent.

A breakdown of how we judge (via point system):

+5 for creative/fitting title

+30 for good grammar, punctuation, and spelling (mechanics)

+30 for intriguing plot/ underlying meanings (morals)/ interesting to read

+15 for characters: development, realistic, dialogue, etc,

+10 originality: doesn't rely on cliches 

+10 creativity 

=100 total points

Bonus +1 for a creative, eyecatching cover
