Ulysses is a Girl

The day it all started

Ulysses has many siblings, going in order there was Bryk 16, Ainsley 14, Kaizer 12, Ulysses and her twin brother Elijah were 10, Lyla was 6, Micah was 4, and Zahara was 2. When this story started Bryk and Ulysses were running around the house in search of her lost shoe. Yes Ulysses is a girl. She normally goes by Lys to avoid confusing others. "Finally here it is, it was under your bed!" Bryk shouted as he rushed down the stairs tossing the shoe at Lys and grabbing her arm in one swift motion. "Okay...give me two....seconds to put it on..." Lys huffed as she struggled to get the shoe on as she was being forcibly dragged out of the house to Bryk's waiting Ford Focus. Ainsley, Kaizer, and Lyla were already waiting in the car looking very irritated with her...again. She was always the one to make everyone late for the day. "SERIOUSLY LYS!" Kaizer and Ainsley screeched as she hopped in the backseat with the younger two. Her youngest sibling Micah and Zahara already left for the day with Mom and Dad who always leave at 7am sharp no matter what. "I'm sorry...I forgot where I left it again." Lys was always dragging everyone else down, or that's what she thought every time they got after her. "Don't worry Lys, Ainsley always spends most of the morning applying her make-up and Kaizer plays video games until the last minute." Bryk was always coming to her defense, ever since she was a little girl and got picked on because of her name. She smiled at him and mouthed "Thanks" as they sped towards the school. "So what time did he leave this morning?" Kaizer asked Lys, of course he was talking about her twin who always left way before anyone because he liked to get to school early and go to the library. "He left at 6:30, he said he had a project to get started on as early as possible." She and Elijah were very different for being twins. He was a straight A++ student, neat freak who was obsessed with space and aliens. "Figures.. you think he is going to enter the science fair after what happened last year?" Kaizer asked with concern. After last year's science fair results deemed Elijah "too mature" he wasn't allowed to place in the fair. " Well if he does I'm sure it will just be a repeat of last year and Dad will have to have a talk with the judges AGAIN ! " I hated for Elijah to be so depressed and annoyed that our Dad had to go in and make things better just because he was the superintendent and had a way with words. "Well lets drop it guys because this convo is seriously bumming me out!" Ainsley whined from the front seat as she picked at her nails and rolled her eyes. She was always the drama queen and never cared about what went on with any of us anyway but she tried hard to pretend I guess. "Fine whatever!" Kaizer said as he begrudgingly glared out the window and Ainsley flipped her red hair over her slender shoulder. "Okay Kaizer let Lys out while I get Lyla undone from her seat and run her in." Bryk said, jumping out of the barely stopped car. OH great we were at my school...yay! My school was a plain and simple old school house with a giant staircase leading up to the front doors. "Hey Lys!" Jordy, her best friend since preschool, called out as she trudged across the school yard. "Hey Jordy...how was your weekend?" she asked as her brother passed her carrying Lyla and waved good bye as he jogged up the steps with her. She waved back and started up the steps with Jordy in tow. "It was a Dad weekend so we all stayed up late and watched 'Jaws' on TV." Jordy's parents have been divorced since before I knew her. She has two older brothers Maxx and Ian who were very protective of her. "Ooh nice my Mom won't buy us that one because we live too close to the ocean and she doesn't want to ruin the fun for us." We walked through the big doors and into the main hall that was lined with our little lockers. "The kindergarteners need to report to Mrs. Jenkins's room for reading time with the 5th graders after lunch today!" My Mom's voice rang through the school as we made our way past the main office and down to the end of the hall towards the 5th grade locker section. Yes my Mom was the principal at my school and yes it was very annoying.

My Mom, well let's start with this, she didn't like me very much most days...and by that I mean she never seemed to care about me. "Ulysses, dear, don't be late today!" Mom said as she marched past me and into my classroom. "She seems like she is in a grand mood." Jordy whispered as we walked into the classroom and we took our seats. Jordy was seated at the back towards the middle and I was more towards the front because I was a 'problem' student unlike Jordy. Elijah jogged into the room just as the bell rang and sat beside Jordy and my other best friend Addie. Addie and I met at Girl Scout's summer camp when we were six. I waved at her and she waved back. We all sat facing the front as my Mom finished talking with my teacher Mr. Martin. She said okay and he went to the marker board to write down todays first assignments. "Ulysses, be good today!" she said as she left the room. "Elijah come see me after lunch sweetie!" she called from the hall. Of course she wanted to talk with her favorite child about how awesome he was doing. I hated how she loved him more then me! "Okay everyone! Eyes to the front!" Mr. Martin was probably my favorite teacher since my kindergarten teacher, Ms. Wyatt. "We will be working on science projects in groups of four! Everyone groups are as follows Elle, Noah, Flynn, and Michelle. Group 1! Trey, Ulysses, Brody, and Jordy. Group 2! Kate, Liall, Grace, and Elijah. Group 3! Addie, Kole, Helen, and Parker. Group 4! Jamieson, Piper, Kimball, and Lukas. Group 5!" Mr. Martin spouted off the names on his clip board as he walked around the room telling us where we all needed to meet up in the room. Me and Jordy were more than excited to be in the same group this time! We loved the group we were in because Brody and Trey were the smartest and cutest boys in our grade! Well only smartest not counting Elijah he was the smartest in the school. "I can't believe that he paired us together, this is the first time in months!" Jordy squealed as she and I made our way over towards the group meeting area. We were sat near the back of the large classroom on the pillow fort that's there for reading. "Okay well let's pick a subject for our project!" Brody said as he picked up a laptop/tablet on the cart. "Everyone is probably going to do a solar system so why don't we just do that!" Jordy whined, she hated science, too much work she thought! "Well we are going to look at some other stuff first!" Trey, the cuter one I thought, told us as he peered over Brody's shoulder at the screen. " Whatever, we will just let you guys pick and we will help with making the actual project, maybe..!" I said as she and I made ourselves comfy on the large pillows. "okay then. Whatever.." Brody said as he started his research further with Trey.
