Chapter One: Graduation!
* January 5, 2018. 12 PM. * Mayfield, Kentucky
In the crowd, surrounding our graduating college class, I search for my sister, I don't see her.
"Four years ago, we all came to this school to further our educations. Through the tears, pain, and studying we have achieved our goals. We have seen our potentials to see our future. I wish everyone an astonishing future. Goodbye, my fellow classmates." I said to everyone as my speech ended. I headed to my assigned seat.
Where in the hell is Alex? I thought but then shrugged my shoulders in disappointment but right now there is no point worrying about it.
Mom and dad are happy to see me get my bachelor's degree. I'm the only one in the family to make it through college.
This is a new chapter to my story. I wait my turn for my name to be called as I sat in the middle row of the L's section.
When the I's section starts being called one by one upon the stage to receive their degrees and resume their prior sets. The L's stand up and proceed to join the graduating line to hear our names to go across the stage to receive our degrees.
My waist-length dark brown hair was curled down in tight banana curls along my back and my turquoise blue eyes twinkled with delight. I was currently in a navy-blue graduation gown and yellow neck thing that lays down the back of the gown.
It feels like forever standing in this line waiting for my name to be called.
Is she here yet? I made a quick glance through the stadium's audience seats, but she still hasn't arrived. Sadness rushes through my entire body turning my previous happy smile turns into a sad one, almost forged.
My best friend, Riley Frain, sent me a re-assuring smile and a thumbs up.
I nodded in her direction as she gave me the smile, she gives to boys that make them swoon. Her light blonde hair reached her shoulder and her baby blue eyes shined brightly. Her lips moved in a motion to let me know it's my turn.
"Am I ready for this next step in my life?" I asked myself silently.
"Maya Lynn, a brave and headstrong student. It was a pleasant blessing to have you as a student. Good luck, my dear child." The headmaster Luke spoke as I cross the stage to shake his hand. Someone took a picture of me as I shook the headmaster's hand.
"I did it." I whispered to myself, proud of myself.
I can hear my mother crying in joy and my father yelling, "Woo-Hoo, that's my baby girl!" While Riley yells, "that is my best friend." and continued to my assigned seat.
At the end of graduation.........2 PM.
"C'mon Maya, lets go to the bar tonight to celebrate our graduation!" Riley shrieked om excitement.
I hate going to the bars all she does is get herself drunk and one-night stands. She looks at my parents for approval. Which they gave her a nod of approval. If I don't go now, she will never leave me alone.
"Fine, I guess we can," I told her, I hug my parents.
"I love you." I tell my parents as we separated.
"We love you too, now be careful." Dad tells me and I nod in understanding.
"She will be fine, she always is." Riley told my dad, "I promise." My dad nods and leaves with mom who blows me a kiss goodbye.
