By HiBisCuitsCristine was alone in her dark bedroom, she had purposely turned off the lights to let the shadows of darkness envelop her. The darkness was both scary and comforting for Cristine. She found bliss in the silence of darkness, serenity that she desperately needed. But, she also feared the monsters that crept to her side, hidden by the escaping light.
The girl laid down across the comfort of her bed, unable to move. Her legs had threaten to fall over in each step, her arms too weak to support her, and her heart weighed her down with the feelings of uncertainty and longing. At times like this, Cristine can't help but wonder about all the opportunities and possibilities she could never experience in this life. Regret was obviously a strong element in Cristine's mind.
Solitude really brings one's mind to wondrous places. Some joyous, but many sorrowful encounters. With her heart clenched and aching in her palm, Cristine wished the tears would just flow and wash away her pain along with it. But, to no avail. Cristine can't help but to ask herself the reason behind her unforgiving tears. Why won't they come and release her pain?
She thought about all the sad things she could remember, trying to force her well of tears to crumble from within. Then, a cheerful ring bounced off the walls and into her senses. She lets the obnoxious sound to yell until it hammered against her head. Pristine sluggishly got up and reached for the grey rectangle on her desk. A friendly name flashing on the bright screen.
"Hello?" Christine croaked.
"Hi there, Cristy," the voice on the other end said. "Are you akay? You sound horrible."
"Geez... thanks for the compliment," Cristine said sarcastically. "I've just been out of the weather lately. No biggie."
"Are you already missing me? Is that why you're feeling sick? Awww... You could've just told me," they teased.
"Keep on dreaming, Darren," Kristin said, rolling her eyes as if the man mentioned could see it.
"It's been forever since we spoke to each other," Darren said. "And I already miss my best friend," Darren whined, trying to imitate a little girl's voice.
"It's only been a week and God... stop that. You're certainly not allowed to even attempt that voice with your baritone," Cristine said, wincing at Darren's attempt.
"I'm not apologizing for that," Darren laughed.
Cristine listened to Daren's laughter in silence, enjoying ever bit of emotions he was conveying. His charming laugh was calming for Cristine. She'd always loved his laughs. As the laughter rang out, Kristin can't help but feel this feeling of achievement emerging from her heart. Not knowing whey, she chose to sit back and relish the warm feelings surrounding her. Carving his joy into her mind, where it will float around in her mind until she's gone. It's moments like this when she could feel thankful for all the misfortunes and twists that've led her to this moment.
"By the way, Crissie, how's college been treating you?" Darren asked."Oh, other than annoying professors, I think everything has gone well," Christine lied. "You?"
"Well, I've been keeping up with classes and thank God that I could understand what my professor taught me," Darren said.
"Wow, can I have your smart-ass brain please?" Cristine chuckled.
"No, but you can have my meme brain," Darren replied.
"No, thank you," Cristine said, rolling her eyes.
Both of them chuckled, Cristine truly wished that Darren was there beside her, playing video games while sharing memes he saw. But he's not. He's at Harvard pursuing his dreams. Fitting for a bright mind he is.
