Justin Duke sat with his computer in his lap, biting his lip as he looked at the screen. He was sat on the floor with his back against the couch where his friend, Alex Hood, was laying with his own computer. Both boys were quiet, focused on their separate works, until Justin sat his computer on the ground by his side.
"How's the edit coming along, Hood?" He asked, stretching his arms out at his sides.
Alex, who had a large pair of headphones resting on his head in a way that only covered half of his ears, nodded. "Nearly there. Already cut down all of the raw footage. I'm just touching it up now."
Justin grinned. "You rock, man!" He tapped Alex's arm, "I'll show you some thumbnail options once you're set."
Alex gave a thumbs up before turning his attention back to his screen. Justin pushed himself up to his feet with a yawn.
He and Alex had been working on a new video for their collaborative youtube channel. It had been something they had been working on and building up since their freshman year of high school. They explored abandoned and occasionally rumored haunted places. Originally they simply did it for fun but, after coming across a video of someone doing something similar, a creative spark was ignited. Alex had an old video camera and editing software thanks to his video production class so the two figured, why not?
That lead to four and a half years of exploring shared with the internet. They had a following of close to one million that stayed constantly interactive between youtube, twitter, and instagram.
Justin walked around the couch, over to the table on the other side of the basement he and Alex occupied. He pulled a package of cookies from the grocery bag that sat on the dark wood and gently tore it open. He brought a cookie up to his mouth with one hand while unloading the remaining contents of the grocery bag with the other.
Lots of snacks for premier night.
"When's everyone coming?" Justin's question was muffled by the cookie in his mouth as he spun to look at the clock that hung by the projector screen on the opposite wall. It was about three thirty, leaving an hour and a half until their friends came to crowd the basement for premier night.
"Hold off on the popcorn or I'll take it out before they get here." Alex hollered from the couch.
Justin laughed before yelling "Noted!" back to his editing friend. Setting the popcorn packages to the side, he began to set up the snack table, moving back and forth across the room to collect bowls and cups from their designated storage.
The set up for premier night was Justin's favorite behind the scenes part of making videos. His and Alex's friend group would come over the night before their explore video would upload to youtube and hang out while getting a first look at the final product. It was nice to have real feedback outside of himself and Alex to comment on the videos they poured so much of themselves into.
"It's done!" Alex yelled, sitting up while simultaneously pulling his headphones down around his neck. " Wanna take a look?"
Justin took another look at the clock. They still had time before the others arrived. He looked back at Alex and nodded. "You bet, Hood." He replied before grabbing the open package of cookies and hurrying over to the couch.
