I was running.
Running to? I don't know.
Running from? Again, I don't know.
I want to forget the things I've just seen in the past moments but I just can't seem to shake the images that keep flashing through my mind. It's as if my own mind wants me to suffer.
I knew the Auixs hated Fararrs, I just never could imagine a group of them coming after my family. Yes, I could imagine a random gang coming in and killing them, but it seemed all too well planned out for one of the most violent gangs, and with a group of their people specifically Auix, seems almost too perfect to be a coincidence..... Right?
But then the question still stands. Why my family? Why not some other family? Was I just unlucky. It seemed still surreal to me, no one knew of my family to be Fararr, we lived in a house in the part of the city where it mostly consists of Lirana, and some Auix. Not even my family's closest friends knew of what we were, so why were we the only family killed in that part of the city? Usually all of the violence is on the opposite side of the city, where most of the Fararr live. But it only makes sense if, some one found out. But how?
I turn another corner, my heart pounding so loud it is almost deafening, the only things I could hear was my heart thumping in my chest, my feet pounding against the dirt roads as I run, weaving through the streets of the city, and occasionally normal city sounds.
Plenty of people were walking on the streets, some even riding on horses, especially the government guard. Usually you wouldn't see much of the government guard, typically a few of the gang members from the big gangs, from the Shizo, and Quino gangs. The past couple of days I haven't seen a single horse with one of the gang members, it was almost concerning in a way. The two gangs weren't violent, and actually pretty kind, peaceful even.
I turn another corner and slam into something hard, that's strange I don't remember there being a wall around this corner. I back up, shaking my head and look up to see I didn't run into a wall at all, but someone.
"Un? Wistch ti li ester feit unster ist qui?" The stranger asked, their voice sweet, and soft. I looked at them warily getting a good look of them. They had brown, wavy hair that was at their shoulder blades, they had a braid sitting atop their head like a crown of sorts.
They had bright green eyes, tan skin, along with sprinkles of freckles on their face. I identified this person as a woman, by her features, and the way she spoke. This woman must have been a Lirana, by the way she looked, the small star birth mark under her left eye, along with language was a dead giveaway that she was indeed a Lirana.
"Uhhh...... what?" I didn't know how to reply so I just run past her, to which she swiftly pulls me back by the collar of my dark blue t-shirt.
"You are in my territory now, you will answer me. Now tell me why you are running. I will not harm you, I just wish to know why and if you possibly have brought a threat into my territory." The girl said, her voice hardening slightly as she become serious, I was also surprised when she switched to match her language to my own. When she said territory though I was shocked, I thought I payed more attention to where I was going so I wouldn't end up in a gangs territory. I look up at her, her face was neutral, and I knew she was waiting for an answer. I was slightly weary looking at her, and I glanced around taking in the surroundings.
"I bring no harm to you. Just....." I trail off, I had no clue if I should tell this stranger and yet again she could most likely call upon her other gang members to help her out.
"Is it personal? I apologize, I am just under a lot of stress. Please if you want and or can tell me why you are running, if you need shelter I can possibly grant you shelter." The woman kept continuing to try to pursue the question, just trying to get an answer out of me.
I sigh, giving up. "My family is dead, and I have nowhere to go." I put it blunt and simple, I hope she just doesn't purse to get more details on what exactly happened.
Her face shows remorse, and her eyes almost seem to tear up, as if to say that she was saddened by my words. "Well, you have somewhere to go now. Please come with me, and don't worry I don't bite, though the others might." She said smiling and lightening up, even laughing a bit. I laugh a bit too at her attempt to lighten the mood, which of course works flawlessly. "My name is Lauraa." The girl, which now has revealed her name to me as Lauraa, adds. She walks past me and glances back to me, gesturing for me to follow her. I follow her down the backstretch of the alleyways, the paths that I have never dared to go down, and yet I am going down them.
"Father, why can't I go down that way?" I ask my father pointing down the alleyway which seems like any normal alleyway and has nothing special about it.
"You will find out when you are older for now, promise me that you will never, ever go down that way." My father says, picking me up and looking me in the eyes, into my very soul. I nod my head, "Promwise." My little voice says, agreeing.
Seems like I'll have to apologize to my father for breaking his promise. But there is no turning back, this is only the beginning.
