It was noon, I sat in my living room, watching my mattress from the other room thinking about how I had to go to sleep on the mattress on the floor. once again. I still hadn't found a new apartment since Oliver broke up with me and since he in a rage threw my bed out the balcony I was stuck with the mattress.
Or. Well. I don't know if you can call just having a crush on your roommate really being a breakup.
He stayed at a friends house in the meantime but I didn't have much time left to find a new place before I probably became homeless.
But instead of falling asleep on the mattress I decided to go out on a walk to ease up my mind. The needle air stung my face as I walked outside and I instantly regretted not taking my scarf. But I was too lazy to go back inside so I started walking along the streets of Brooklyn on the icy sidewalk. I plugged in my earphones and put on my favorite song, Tokyo by Rm. The song fit perfectly for the mood I was in, especially as I tried to drown the noise of sirens in the distance.
Where could I even find a reasonable price for an apartment? University is still in progress and the only job I have on the side is serving old people their vitamins and calling out bingo numbers.
What a life huh.I had completely gotten lost in my thoughts and didn't even realize I was starting to slide down a hill on ice. It was too late to do anything about it so I just hoped there wasn't anyone getting in the way. I started yelling like crazy as my arms flopped by my side and I tried to stop. And of course, with my luck, there was, of course, someone straight ahead of me down the street minding their own business probably not even hearing my yelling.
"GET OUT OF THE WAY!!" I screamed and just as he saw me it was too late and I crashed into him. We both fell down on top of each other and I could hear him hitting his head on the ground.
I quickly got off of him." I'm so sorry!! I did not mean for that to happen! I slipped on the ice and couldn't stop going forward" He grunted loudly as I helped him stand up. "Did you hit your head badly? Should you go to the Hospital maybe?" I asked as he didn't respond to my apology. He nodded and I took his arm around my neck and started to try to get a taxi.
We finally reached the nearest hospital and I sat in the waiting room as the guy got examined.
I can't believe I actually had to give a stranger a concussion, how clumsy can a person be? I don't know why I stayed but something told me I shouldn't leave before giving him a real apology. So I waited. The clock on the wall slowly made its way forward. I put on my playlist once again, this time playing sleeping at last on shuffle. The vending machine looked appealing as I decided to buy a bar of Snickers. The one dollar bill slid smoothly into the machine and started spitting out the bar."That's him" I jumped as I heard a voice in the waiting room after what felt like years of silence. I turned around and saw the poor guy unlucky enough to meet me pointing at me with a doctor beside him. The doctor went straight to me and I backed into the vending machine expecting a beating.
"You are obliged to take this guy home as he has a minor concussion. I heard you don't know each other but as you are the only one here right now it's your responsibility. Make sure he doesn't pass out or start to walk weirdly. If he does, take him back here immediately " She explained and as she walked away she nodded lightly at the guy. We stared awkwardly at each other until I decided to take the step and start to walk towards the exit.
I stopped a little bit forward, looked back and saw the guy staring dumbfounded at me, not having moved a bit. "What? Are you expecting me to carry you or something? Come on, ill call on a taxi" I said as I gestured to him to start moving.
"so what's your name?" he asked as we had sat down in a taxi. I looked at him a little bit shocked as he had not said anything the whole night. "What? Don't you think I should know the name of the guy who gave me a concussion?"
