Ella sat cross legged on the front porch the morning sun hitting her brown legs as she flipped thorough the pages of her magazine. It was the Beginning of a long summer and Ella already dreaded the thought of going back to university in the fall. She loved her course and all

Of her friends old and new that she had made. But there was something about the freedom of summer that made her want it to last forever.

She rolled her head back and caught a glimpse of the time from her phone laying next to her "shit!" Getting up rapidly from the porch ella dashed off back inside and began changing and drinking her coffee at the same time. She threw on her black play suit and placed half her wavy brown hair in a bun, letting the rest fall

Down to her lower back. She was never big on hair cuts. She grabbed her keys and bag and dashed off to the car.

ELLA

I switched on the ignition triggering the radio to play (louder than expected) me old Taylor swift album which I play..(On repeat) whilst driving.

I knew I was already late what was the point in rushing? My phone buzzed missed call from mum. If I'm honest I was far from excited to be going to "brunch" with my mum and a bunch of her friends daughters and sons. For starters most of them think they're better than they actually are and secondly this is why I moved away to uni, to shake off the lifestyle that somewhat resembled a horrific

Cross between gossip girl and made in bloody Chelsea. But still. I can't let mum down.

I found a spot and contemplated staying in the car and Listening to Taylor but I could see mum waiting anxiously in her pastel dress outside. "Ella!" She beamed running towards me "my god, you're brown!" " I cannot wait for you to meet Louise's daughter Charlotte she is just so wonderful" she gushed. I bet she was wonderful. From the far table I took a hazardous guess as to who Charlotte was (the blonde with the sickly pink dress on enhancing in intense smiley conversation with everyone) what a delight.

I took a seat down at the table with mum, "ah, this is my daughter ella" mum introduced me to the table

Of over paid over rated mothers and their offspring. In total there were 3 girls, myself, sickly Charlotte and Leah who was silent. She never spoke. Which puzzles me. She must want to scream. She was amazing polite and elegant but silent. There were, 2 boys Jamie and mark whom were seemingly intelligent and both studied masters degrees at Cambridge and Jamie in Yale as he "fancied a change" these were not my people. There were two empty seats left at the bottom of the table next to mum and I "oh, aren't Deborah and her son coming?" Mum said sounding mildly disheartened the rest shrugged and acted concerned and resumed eating the assortment of brunch with casual chatter of holidaying, school and cricket.

I wanted to be anywhere else.

Mum nudged me from under the table And rose from her seat. I had no idea what she was doing. "Ah Deborah so glad you could make it!" She smiled hugging her friend tightly.

From behind Deborah emerged what I assumed to be her son. A tanned boy with brown hair that went a tiny bit blonde on the ends. A lot like mine. He smiled sheepishly. I knew that smile. He did not want to be there either.

He took the seat next to me and I poured him a glass of orange "Ella" I smiled "nice to meet you" "James" she nodded back. "I hate these things" I whispered not wanting to dishearten my mother. He laughed lightly, softly "me too mum dragged me out of band practise to come" he said jovially

But with a hint of resentment. "Ooooh a band aye?" "Very cool" he laughed looking right at me "don't knock us till you've seen us play" "no no I think it's cool, at uni a few of is go to the bear hut every Friday to watch a new band play!" He looked surprised and a big smile drew across his face only then did I notice the blueness of his eyes his face was so full of light. "No way!! I love it there, man why have I never met you, before" he chuckeld. "I avoid these situations" I smiled. It was the truth I hated them. "Well, Ella we happen to be playing a gig tonight down at the beach you should come, give me your honest opinion on us" he winked. I felt myself blush slightly. "Well james, I would love to but I have a thing" I said. But the "thing" was non existing and I was just worried about how well we were hitting it off. "Ah man, maybe some other time here-" he took out his phone "why don't I take your number and then you'll never miss a show" she smiled a friendly smile I have him my number and handed it back. "I'm so glad there are normal people like us her e James laughed looking over at mark and Jamie who we're reenacting last weeks cricket match. "Me too" I laughed giving James a smile. His smile was contagious.
