The story of Ivykit

chapter 1

Chapter one:

"Rainshadow!" "What's wrong Foxkit?" "Ivykit bit me!" "What have I said about playing rough?" exclaimed Rainshadow. No biting to hard...Mumbled Ivykit miserably. As she watced her brother go to find Redkit, Ivykit went to find Mistykit and Skykit who were playing moss ball when she was playing with her brother. She found them watching the apprentices play fighting. Mistykit of course mooning over Shrewpaw who was a recently made apprentice along with his brother and sisters Rockpaw, Icepaw and Lilypaw. Lilypaw was Ivykit best friend when they were both kits but now she doesn't talk to Ivykit as much now. Hopefully when she becomes an apprentice they she will talk to her more!

"Mum? Why can't we be an apprentice?" "Because Foxkit, you have to be six moons old to become an apprentice your only five moons old." "But I want to be one NOW!" Persisted Foxkit. "Just enjoy being a kit while you can." Rainflower Murmured as she settle down in her nest for the night. Ivykit couldn't sleep so she sat in her nest for a little longer wondering what it'd be like to be a leader. So much hard work but so much fun and big decisions that would affect the whole clan! She settled down and drifted of to sleep her last thought was how she would feel becoming an apprentice...

"Let all cats old enough to fetch their own pray gather before the ash branch!"

Ivykit was trembling with excitement her gray, black and white fur smoothed back along with Mistykits and Foxkits though his tail was so fluffy Mumma was unable to keep it down so it stuck up all over the place! Skykit and Redkit were also there there eyes shinning though Skykit was more relaxed then Redkit who was quivering with excitement! Then Hawkstar called their- "IVYKIT!" "Wake up!" "We're gonna play moss ball!" She yawned sleepily that had been a real good dream! She thought She ran outside after Foxkit only to halt by a sudden yowl of pain coming from Ferretwhisker. Rainshandow quickly ran into the medicine cat den and came back out with Dawnflight at her heals carrying a bunch of herds. "Mistykit, Skykit, Foxkit, Redkit!" "Come quickly!" Ivykit yowled to her den mates "Ferretwhisker is having her kits!" As the clan sat and waited silently apart from Ferretwhiskers mate Tanglefoot who was pacing outside the nursery wincing every time he put pressure on his twisted foot. Ivykit sat and waited as the sun rose in the sky. She was about to dose of to sleep missing her afternoon nap had made her sleepy but then Dawnflight came out with the news of 4 healthy kits: three toms and a she-cat.

Ivykit curled up in a tighter ball trying to block the wails of the new kits: Lizardkit- a black and brown Tom, Sparrowkit - a dark brown tom, Cloudkit- a white Tom with a brown tail tip, Poppykit- a fluffy white she-cat with a black blob in the middle of her back. Ivykit couldn't wait until she was an apprentice! No more wailing kits!

It had been several days and Ivykit was bored. She went over to her littermates who were whispering to each other and asked what they were doing. They shouted "SHHH!!!!!!" "Why?" Said Ivykit her eyes big and her ears flat from the surprise. "We are planning to go out hunting whispered Mistykit." "What about Redkit and Skykit surly they would want to go as well!" "Their covering us and the next time we will cover them." "When they see how much pray we bought home they will make us warriors now!" declared foxkit. "Ok so how are we going to get out?" "You know the tunnel?" The tunnel is a dead end tunnel hidden behind a clump of ferns at the back of the nursery. "Yeh what about it?" "Well we found a hole on the side that leads out!" Said Foxkit proudly. "Well it was I who found it", grumbled Mistykit. "Well we both found it," exclaimed Foxkit shoving Mistykit playfully.

They silently scurried to the nursery and to the tunnel, Ivykit, checking behind her to make sure no one was looked but being such a hot day everyone was out enjoying the sun. The only cat in the nursery was Rainshadow who had dosed off after the poppy seeds Dawnflight had given her because she had a bad bellyache. Once they were out in the forest they gasped in amazement for they had never seen so many trees! Foxkit led the way into the forest and almost instantly saw a mouse Ivykit quickly duked into the crouch that Lilypaw had shown her. She silently crept forward and when she was a rabbit-hop away she pounced. She landed directly on top of the mouse and snapped its neck before it could squeal. She held her head high as she stalked over to her littermates whose eyes were wide with pride and amazement. "WOW!" Exclaimed Mistykit staring at the mouse; "lets catch something else before we head back." meowed ivykit, now the leader.

By the time they got back to camp they had four mice and a vole. They stalked into the hole only to find Hawkstar sitting in the nursery his eyes glimmering with anger. Skykit and Redkit were sitting next to him with their heads down and their ears back trying not to catch Ivykit and her littermate's eyes. "Mossbelly send Wildnose to find Mudstorm's patrol". Hawkstar called to Mossbelly who bowed her head and hurried away. "So I see you caught something to pay for your disobedience" he said eyeing the mice and vole. There was a flicker of pride in his eyes since they were his grandchildren. "You will have to be punished," he thought for a while then he announced,, "the first day of being an apprentice all you five should clean the elder's den." Ivykit went to her bed dragging her paws. Then drifted off to sleep her last thought was the pride in Hawkstars eyes and realized that their punishment could have been worse.
