A 2nd Person View Story

The eerie silence was deafening. With all the talk of a vicious murderer running freely, you were sure to be extra careful when walking in the alleyways...especially now when it's late at night.

Making a quick turn up a corner you spot a familiar house, a simple yellow one where a typical family of four would inhabit it, despite having only three occupants in it. You smile sadly at the sight of it. You could practically hear someone in your head saying "You have arrived at your destination." in a Siri voice.

It was a weird feeling, admiring the house. Taking it all in, you notice that the lights weren't on, which was explainable since people should be asleep at this hour.

You approach the house and tried to turn the knob, you then start squirming. You forgot that it was late at night and the door was probably locked. You scratched your head sheepishly, embarassed despite there being nobody around to see you.

Slowly taking the 'Welcome' mat in your hands, you turn it and spot something. It was the spare key, one that is taped to the back of the mat and is used for emergency purposes.

Unlocking the door, you opened it, careful not to make too much noise, as you don't want or need to attract any attention. You start to walk after closing the door, but you immediately freeze.

There was a light coming from the kitchen.

Hands sweating, breathing was heavy, with adreneline was pulsing through your veins, you quietly panicked. No one was supposed to be awake at this late hour and you knew this too well. You swallowed as your mind creates different scenarios, each getting more and more horrifying and impossible than that the previous one.

The light turned off so suddenly, and you can hear steps coming your way.

Step.

Your breathing quickened.

Step.

Your vision was blurring. Your mind was creating images of the demons and monsters you had seen in your dreams as a kid.

Step.

And whatever it was, was nearing. Your heart was thumping so fast it hurts. Your palms more sweaty than an obese guy on the treadmill for 28 minutes. The steps were slowly getting closer...

Step.

You hold your breath. Waiting. For what? A beast? A monster? A murderer? Even you didn't know which could be worst.

But before you could react a 7 year old boy calmly drinking milk from his Spongebob decorated glass, came into your view. You sighed in relief at this.

Kneeling so your eyes were in line with his dark green ones, you smile. He smiles back---in the creepy silence around you, although confused. You tell him that he has white mustache making him look like Santa Claus and ruffled his hair. He seemed surprised, but proceeded to lick his upper lip---wanting to get rid of his mustache.

You ask him what he was doing here and he replies that he wanted milk. Realizing the presence of the darkness around you, it was surprising he wasn't scared of the dark, most kids around his age would cower at the thought of getting up in the middle of the night. You guess he might be just that brave.

You walked him back to his room as you held a finger to your lips, signaling him to be silent. He nodded and pretended to be a ninja keeping his silence. You chuckled...it was humorous to watch as he puts his arms in a martial arts position while quietly humming the Mission Impossible Theme song.

You let him enter his room and order him to stay there. Though he didn't seem like he wanted to, he slowly agreed.

You then approach the room with a little 'My Room My Rules' sign hanging by the door. You were extremely tired, you wanted nothing more than to lay down on your bed, sleep, then start dreaming of less tiring days.

You open the door and it produces a small creak, to which you grimace at. Entering the room, you slowly shut the door as you start walking towards the bed right in front of you.

Finally was the only word that went to your mind.

With slow steps you head towards the window, opening it, letting the icy cold evening breeze in, when you hear an unfamiliar muffled voice, coming from the direction of the bed.
