The neighborhood was filled with young birds that had returned from their first day of school. Mr. and Mrs. Blue Jay waited for the baby Blue Jay who was running very late.
"He must have been delayed". Said Mrs. Blue Jay with concern.
"Its not like our baby Blue Jay to be late". Mr. Blue Jay replied.
Mrs. Blue Jay flew into the air and twirled into the sky. "I will find him" she said and flew towards the Pond. She landed near the grassy shore and took a closer look around. A asked a young group of birds that were walking by but none of them had spotted the little bird. "Where could he be"?, she whispered to herself.
She decided to get a better view from the air and flew as high as she could. After a little while, she spotted a young hatchling off in the distance. He was jumping around without direction. She flew down towards the little bird to take a closer look.
"Baby bird", She said. "I have been worried sick. Why haven't you come home"? She asked confused.
"Hi Mom"! the baby bird said excitedly. "I am learning to fly so that I can find my way home".
She looked at him puzzled. "Baby bird, would it be easier to ask .
"But Mr. Sparrow said that since I have wings I should be able to find my way if I fly up there". He pointed to the sky.
"But, don't you know your way"? His mother asked.
"Yes. Mrs. Sparrow said it was that direction", he pointed towards the pond.
"So you got so buzy trying to fly, that you forgot to walk". She mused.
"I suppose I did". He said regrettably.
"Well, its ok". She hugged him. "I will teach you to fly, in time. For now lets focus on what's most important". She released him and quickly realized he was alone.
"Where are your brothers". She asked.
"They're further back".
She took hold of baby birds hands and began the journey to find the remaining baby Blue Jays.
