Jaycee

Staring at myself in the mirror, all the terrible thoughts I have and all the pain I've went through flowed through my head.

December 16, 2017

"Pop pop!" I smiled watching my grandfather walk out the house.

I love my grandfather with everything in me, and it's been tough for him ever since we lost my grandmother a few years back. I don't have a significant other, but I couldn't imagine losing a parent or sibling.

Ever since she died, he never wanted to leave the house or anything. He'd just sit inside all day and watch tv, which scares me. As old as he is, he needs to move around and get some fresh air every once in a while.

With mom and dad working and Jasmine doing her own thing, no one really checks up on him and I think seeing his family is all he really wants.

"Where is everybody?" He asked.

"Pop Pop you asked me that already." I chuckled lowly.

"I'm sorry I don't remember nugget."

"I said mom and dad are going on a date and Jasmine is studying for the ACT tomorrow."

"Oh well it looks like it's just me and you, huh?"

"Yup." I smiled.

It was hard getting him to come out the house, but when you have your grandfather wrapped around your pinky finger, you're always going to get your way.

Grabbing his hand in mine, we walked to the beach since it wasn't too far away from his house. And his house is about two blocks from ours so I walked here.

"The water feels nice." He said as we walked along the water and the low tides hit our feet.

"See I told you that you should've came out today, look how beautiful it is out here."

"I know thank you for this baby." He said. "Where's your mom and dad?"

Looking up at him, I stopped walking and stared into his eyes once he stopped walking. His smile made me smile, although I began to get worried about him.

"Pop Pop did you take your medicine today?"

"Yes."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"What's my name?"

"Jaycee."

"My full name."

"Jaycee Talia Reid."

My grandfather is the one who picked out my middle name, so him getting it wrong really scared me. Not only did he get it wrong, but that's Jasmine's middle name.
