Trisha Laurence was not happy. Though admittedly, the man laying on a stretcher in front of her had more reason to be perturbed than her. She had told the paramedics that he saved her life so she wanted to ride with in the ambulance, though he really just cost her an arrest that she had been chasing for weeks.

His condition didn't look good. The paramedics were working on him, pumping oxygen into his injured lungs, and cradling his bleeding head.

She had to say, the kid had guts, she almost hoped he pulled through, though if he did she would just have to kill him all over again for ruining her otherwise great night.

She was looking at his bruised and blood drenched face when she noticed his eye cracked open, bloody tears dripping to the rubber mat below him. He was looking right at her, fear and pain only just dulling the vibrant blue of his iris. Something about his eyes pulled her in, made her reach across and grab his hand, squeezing it for reassurance. God, she should have stayed home and read a book.
