"CANNONBALL!" Patton shouted before launching himself into the pool. It was the middle of summer and even in the mindscape it was unbearably hot. So to try and compensate for the heat Roman, with some help from Logan conjured up a pool to swim in. "Hey Virgil! Aren't you coming in?", called Roman. Virgil sat in the shade well away from the splash zone.
"Nah, I'm good"
"Come on, it's really nice. How are you even still wearing long sleeves and pants, it's so hot!"
Virgil didn't reply but flicked his wrist and the vine where Thomas says he wears long black clothes in winter and summer "because I look good in black and am willing to suffer!" Appeared in front of them
Roman sighed, at least Virgil had taken his hoodie off. Suddenly he got a wicked idea, quietly he summoned a bucket and filled it with water, but as he got out of the pool , Virgil, who was on his phone growled "don't even think about it Princy"
Roman huffed "spoil sport" and jumped back in.
That night Roman woke to bright moonlight across his face. He tried shifting around but he was a light sleeper and couldn't fall back asleep. Sighing he got up. The night air was cool and very pleasant after the hot day so he decided to take a walk. In the imagination he walked through a forest to where he knew the was a natural pool, where he thought he might sit a while and relax. To his surprise as he drew close he saw someone had beaten him to the spot and was swimming. Walking closer he stepped on something, probably a stick, that went crunch and alerted the person in the water to his presence. The person whipped around as Roman stepped into the small clearing, squeaked and dove under the water. Going to the bank Roman inspected the neatly folded clothes that were on a towel next to the water. To his surprise they were Virgil's, Roman didn't know what he had been expecting, probably one of the smaller sides that lived in the imagination, but it wasn't Virgil. Suddenly from behind him came:
"What are you doing here?"
Roman turned and saw Virgil had popped his head out of the water to watch him.
"I woke up and couldn't fall back asleep so I decided to take a walk. What are you doing here, I thought you didn't like swimming."
Virgil sighed, "I do like swimming, just not when there are people around and I feel like I'm gonna get sunburned."
"Ah. ... do you do this often?"
"... yes"
"Mmh"
...
"What, no questions or snide remarks?"
"Nah, I mean we all have our weird habits, but I just, don't really feel like it."
"Really? Well then what's one of your weird habits?"
Roman snorted, "you mean besides openly admitting I serenade myself in the mirror?"
"Whoah, since when are you the cynical one? I thought that was my job."
"I've been taking lessons from you and Logan. And, I've just been sorta, out of it lately, ya know?"
During this conversation Roman had summoned a blanket and was now lying on it and staring at the sky. There was a comfortable silence between them for a while, interrupted only by the sound of Virgil swimming and the occasional breeze.
Eventually Virgil got out and dried off before dressing and going to sit next to Roman who had purposely summoned a blanket big enough for two people.
A few hours before dawn Roman stood and stretched. Looking over he saw Virgil had fallen asleep and carefully moved the darkly dressed trait under the trees and summoned a pillow for him. He then went back to his own room to sleep.
That morning Virgil woke to the sounds of birds singing. Sitting up he looked around blearily and rubbed his eyes. Someone, almost definitely Roman had moved him under the trees so he was in the shade and not melting in the already hot sun, which was nice. Looking around again he saw that his towel was folded neatly nearby with a note on top.
The note read: 'Last night was nice, we should do it again sometime.'
Virgil smiled, it was nice to do something with Roman besides bicker and insult each other. Summoning a pen he wrote 'sure, how does tonight sound' on the back. Then, on his way back to his room he slipped the note under Romans door before falling into his own bed for another few hours of sleep.
