“RrrRrrrR… rRRrrrR...” My phone was going nuts at my left side pocket. I tried to ignore it but it still kept on vibrating all throughout my Physics class. I definitely knew it was my best friend, Sophie. Lately, it’s like she’s in a very weird trance; she’s odd most of time and like she’s lost in her own world. Sophie just had her precious heart, broken over her 4 month boyfriend, Wallace; the school’s quarterback. For four months, she was mooning and madly in love with Wallace. I know she’s my best friend and all, but seeing her follow him around like a sick puppy makes me want grab a cane and shove it right through her head. Nothing came out from her mouth but her precious Wallace being the perfect quarterback in the football team, how his hair would fall aimlessly on his face and how he would call her baby until she melts. It was like a torture and the same time deafening and annoying. “What did this guy fed Sophie?” I thought to myself. She is completely head over heels with her quarterback.
Not until a week ago though, Sophie’s world fell apart and she dragged me along with her in her misery. “Kitty, (I’m Katie, but she loves calling me Kitty), you’re my best friend. Help me with this. I don’t know how to deal with this without you”. Just like that, I had to deal with break up problems even though I was as single as my lucky penny in my old wallet. Oh life. The arse Wallace, was openly making out with the new cheerleader Tiffany, in the bleachers, and how lucky it was that Sophie of all people saw them both. Before Tiffany could say anything, Sophie’s hand swiftly flew across her pretty white face leaving a burning mark of my best friend’s greatness. Lucky for Wallace, Sophie didn’t push him off the bleachers; it could have sent him straight to the hospital and who knows he would still be the quarterback of the team or worse, play football.
As soon as class with Mrs. Petrova, our Russian Physics teacher, ended I texted Sophie who was having English class in the next classroom.
“Hey! I just got off the hook from Mrs. P. I’ll be in my locker. Meet you at the Caf. Okay? How are you holding up bestie? You know my ears are always ready to hear you out. xxx –K”
I was hopelessly rummaging for my locker keys in my Coach Poppy purse that Sophie got me for my Birthday last year. I have this weird feeling that my bag sucks up all my stuff. It felt like there was a black hole in it. When I finally found my keys, I felt my phone vibrate again. It must be Sophie.
“Can you Save me? THIS CLASS IS THE WORST EVER. I don’t know if it’s just the class or the bad dream I had last night. It’s freaking me out but good thing it’s just a dream. Details later. Go to the Caf now. Diet coke and a blueberry muffin for me okay? xxx –S”
It’s like a routine, or more like of a tradition. If my class had to end first before the bell rings, I have to pay for our snacks and if it’s Sophie’s she would do the same. 10 minutes more and Sophie’s done with English. I don’t know if I’m just too worried of her or its just starting to creep me out. I don’t know how to handle her “situation”. I never had a break up or a boyfriend before so I can’t tell her how to man up. I think she’s overly emotional that it scares the “f” out of me. Sometimes she cries too much and sometimes she acts as if nothing happened. It’s not that I can blame her, Wallace was her first boyfriend, and first love and first heartbreak. My head was starting to stir up when I saw Sophie walking towards me.
“Oh my God. Kitty you won’t believe about the dream I had last night. I was sweating like hell when I woke up. Unbelievable.” She said as she sat beside me and helped herself with the blueberry muffin that I got for her.
“What was the dream all about, Sophie?” I asked. For some reasons, I felt very unsettled. I don’t want to hear the dream but I just had to.
“Well, the freaking dream was that, Wallace and I broke up and there was this girl I slapped her across her loser face. Would you believe that? Wallace and I? Break up? Pathetic don’t you think”
