How It All Started

"It's going to be a blast for your career. I was able to put in a word for you cos I'm friends with the Syco director. El, you're going to be famous." Mark, my modeling agent, was insistent, the hard look in his eyes and the little beads of sweat on his forehead spoke of his unwavering determination. In convincing me.

"But Mark! I don't want to ride on someone else's fame...I don't...I'm fine like this." My attempts were feeble as usual. Compared to Mark, Hitler would seem feeble so I didn't beat myself up over it.

"Well honey, if you don't want to do it for yourself, help the poor couple out. You know one of the main reasons is cos of your-" Mark gestured with his hands as if to illustrate something.

I raised an eyebrow. "I'm asexual. You can say it Mark, I've accepted it and embraced it." To think even after my convincing him that it's not a sensitive topic for me he still fumbles. Well I guess he knows me better than I thought. I'm not entirely uncomfortable with it, and I believe in no labels but there's no way to not label yourself when you know you can never be attracted to a person in any way. Not even if that person happens to be the most gorgeous guy in the world in the biggest boyband in the world. Which is probably the biggest reason why Mark thought I would be the perfect candidate for posing as Louis Tomlinson's fake girlfriend or rather, beard.

"Help the couple out Ellie. Come on, you're the best person for it. Management's pretty desperate. Fans have really picked up on it and there are so many fangirls out there who are convinced they are a thing, and if they are to continue being together then they need a fake girlfriend...if they don't find a suitable girl then they will be forced to break up and put distance between them in public...And what if they find a girl who's...a... connvining bitch and she does things to cause a rift between them? Even if their love is strong, they don't need an additional worry about bitch fake girlfriend from hell making things difficult for them or trying to seduce Louis or any of the boys...or tricking Louis to...I don't know, cheating on Harry under influence..." For an old guy, he sure had a good idea of what young gold digging girls had up their sleeves. "The couple is already under a lot of pressure from the hiding and from media and such...they really need a good girl to ensure things go as smoothly as they can. I trust you Ellie and cos of that, I've managed to convince Modest team of that...now if you'll agree." Mark was practically beseeching now.

This guy knew me too well for my own good. He knew I'd give in when it came to helping someone and yeah, it was tugging at my heart strings. He was right anyway, it was a big fucking -excuse my French- deal when it came to this kind of stuff. It was a big risk and could cause so many potential problems. Hearts could be broken, and even if they found a nice girl, she could fall in love and get her heart broken. I'd met Louis before and he was a really nice guy. Anyone would fall in love with him. Even though I hadn't known about his relationship with Harry at that time, I saw the kind of love he had for him. Any stranger could see it. No wonder they needed such extreme measures to hide it from the world. I had asked people if they were together since I wasn't a fan of One Direction and knew practically nothing about them and had been pretty puzzled when I heard they were just best friends.

Having a decent girl who'd make sure she tries nothing to make their lives difficult and at the same time doesn't fall in love with any of them and agree to actually do it...would be really hard to find. Practically impossible. And here I was, the perfect candidate and I didn't even have anything to lose. Well, not much.

"But the hardcore fan girls and the shippers of the couple, what about fans who are in love or lust with Louis? They're all going to hate me." I groaned. It was a defeated groan. A groan that meant 'I'm going to do it but this right here is going to happen and that sucks'.

Mark grinned like a Cheshire cat. "Don't worry about that Ellie, you can handle a little of that. It wouldn't be that bad. And with your sweet angelic face I'm sure that you'll woo the fans in no time. They'll love you when they see how sweet you are. They might even think you and Louis are cute together and ship you guys...but that's a long shot. Thing is, they're basically 10-16 year old girls. How harsh can they be." You have no idea. Mark got up from his plush swiveling chair and came over to my side of his desk, patting my shoulder and handing me the official contracts of non-disclosure and 4-year agreement of being the fake girlfriend.

I read it thoroughly. Kissing in public....posing for pictures for paps...tweeting pictures...tweeting details about cute moments together...hand holding...attending events together...talking to friends about sex life??? Okay...Meeting the family after 2 months of dating...going to family events together...Gosh the clauses were endless. Last condition basically translated to: terms will be changed according to public reaction and we might be asked to do things outside the contract but will be decided on whether the public believe it or not. But whatever is asked of us will not breach any human rights. Interesting.

It took me a whole half hour to read and I signed it rather hesitantly. Gosh what did I get myself into.
