Prologue
Killian’s POV
The baby in my arms stopped crying once I finally got a hang of how to rock her to sleep. She was beautiful and I had no idea how she ended up in my arms while I was on my hike.
One moment I was enjoying the peaceful hike when I saw this little bundle in the middle of the woods crying out. She stole my heart when I laid eyes on her and I knew right then that I had to protect her.
As I hiked back down I realized it was getting cold and the baby might not be able to handle it just yet. I didn’t have much on me because I was just going to shift once I reached the top and stay there for a while.
It was getting really cold now and I was doing my best to keep the baby girl warm but if I didn’t find us a place to camp out for a while then she might freeze to death.
I was starting to lose hope, when I heard the sound of Jazz playing somewhere in the woods. I followed the sound and when I saw lights I knew that things were looking up. The baby girl with the violet eyes will be safe.
I got to the house and swept my dark hair to the side. It was hanging in front of my eyes and was beginning to irritate me.
An old woman ran out of the house when she saw me and ushered me inside.
“What are you doing out in the cold and with a baby?” she scolded more than asked and I felt bad even though the child was not mine. “Never mind, go sit in front of the fire while I make you something to eat.”
After the old woman fed me and made sure I and the baby were warm, I knew it was time to give her some answers, answers that I myself lacked.
Instead of repeating the questions she asked when I first entered her house she just smiled at the baby that slept peacefully.
“What is your daughter’s name?” The old woman asked with such adoration I was slightly taken back by it.
I didn’t know the girl’s name but I knew she needed one so I said the first name that popped into my head. “Mika, her name is Mika.”
