Arriving at the school gates as the bell was cutting so close, even for me, so I sped to my tutor room, before my tutor realised I was late. Although even if I was late my tutor, Mr Davidson, was pretty kind so he would probably let me off. Mr D was like the greatest tutor ever, he was one of those teachers you could just joke around with and let you chat in the mornings, unlike the strict teachers. He mainly taught PE at school so every day, come rain or shine, he always wore t-shirt and shorts. It was pretty funny really and you hardly ever saw him in a suit, even if you did it was a rare occasion.
As I walked into tutor, he was just starting the register and nodded to me as I came in and sat down on my chair. Once I had answered to the register I popped my plugs back in and checked my timetable. First period I had Fine Art and then English, a good start to the day and also meaning I had a lesson with Lyra! I hadn’t been able to see any of my friends yet today, since I was late, so it would be good to catch up on everything that had happened over the weekend with her. She was my slightly crazy, awesome friend, whom I had been friends with for about 2 years since she moved to my school. She was a quite emotional and sullen at times, but I didn’t mind that; she was just a really good friend with all the good qualities you could want in a friend.
Someone was tapping me on the shoulder so I turned in my seat and looked back at Clara, my ‘class buddy’ since she was in loads of my classes at school. I had known her for ages, since primary school, so we were good friends and socialised out of school sometimes.
‘Hey have you done the maths revision?’ she asked me.
‘Yeah I have, well quite a lot of it anyway!’ I hadn’t really done too much of it and left a few questions out, but I think I’d revised enough for the maths test today. I hoped it was enough.
‘Ah, cool same. What do ya think you’ll get for the test?’
‘Not sure really... Hopefully I get a B or an A!’
‘Yeah I hope I can get that too. Anyway see you in English!’ The school bell trilled out loud, just as Clara finished speaking and everyone rushed out of their seats. I stood up and grabbed my bag off the floor and started to the door as everybody surged through the small door frame.
‘Yeah, see you later Clara!’ I shouted above the chaos to her. I then proceeded to squeeze my way through the crowds in the hallways to my next class.
I couldn’t wait to get into Fine Art with Miss Cotton; she was an amazing art teacher and made the lesson feel like a rest from all the other academic subjects. She had a short blonde bob, very slim in figure and always wore casual clothes, like black skinny jeans and a white blouse. She was always nice to be around and one of my favourite teachers, which was good as I would have her for the next two years.
I walked into the class and saw most people were already sat down, including Lyra, and I walked over to sit next to her. It was hard not to spot Lyra as she always dyed her hair these crazy colours, like this week it was a bright, ultra violet purple, but the week before it was a sea green and blue combo. Normally she’d have kept it for a month, but obviously she wasn’t ecstatic about the way the colour had turned out, so she’s dyed it this mental colour! It was fun trying to guess which colour she would try on next and most hair colours were a success fortunately.
The bell hadn’t rung yet, so the lesson hadn’t officially started, so everyone was getting their books and supplies out while talking to their friends. The air was abuzz with chatter and din from everyone slapping their pencils and pens down onto the paint-splattered, scratched wood tables.
I sat down at the table next to Lyra and while proceeding to get my own things out decided to do some chatting of my own.
‘Hi Lyra! How are you?’ I inquired, as I normally did every time I started to talk to someone.
‘Yeah I’m good. You like my new, totally awesome hair?’ She asked enthusiastically, almost jumping up and down on her seat. She was that elated about hearing my opinion on her hair!
‘Well…’ I started off just to tease her.
‘Don’t do this to me Lily!! Just spit it out!’ She shouted at me. It was so funny when I teased her and she reacted like this.
‘OK, OK! I have to admit it looks amazing and probably the best colour to date!’
‘You always say that.’ She rolled her eyes and poked her tongue out at me.
‘Because it’s true! They always look better than the last time you dyed your hair! Well apart from that sea green hair, that wasn’t your best effort and you know it.’
‘Yeah, I know right. That looked OK, but I was going for a bright blue not a dull sea green! So I thought I’d dye it to this mad violet.’
‘This colour looks way nicer and yes, the violet is mad.’
‘Thanks, I thought it was mad!’ She giggled. I rolled my eyes at her childishness; Typical Lyra.
‘Yeah, Yeah whatever. Any ideas of what we’re doing today in art?’
‘Nope, but we’re probs finishing those sketches of the jars or summin’ like that’
‘More drawing? No offence to Miss Cotton, but this is seriously getting dull doing the same thing every lesson!’
‘Yeah I know, I’ve finished mine already too. Hopefully we’ll find out now though.’ She said as Miss Cotton walked through the door and the lesson began.
After the lesson had ended, which in the end was just about learning the basics of using watercolours, I parted ways with Lyra and headed to English, which I had with Clara.
PS: The photo on the side is the colour of Lyra's hair encase you couldn't imagine it!
