I watched the scientist at work, his lab coat covered in chemical stains and in dire need of a wash. I titled my head to the side and floated a little closer to watch over his shoulder. Oh yes, did I forget to mention?

I'm a ghost, my name is Echo and I don't know how long I've been dead, I don't even remember how old I was when I was alive. Doesn't that tell you something? I've been floating around in the void for the past... Notch knows how long until suddenly.. BAM! I'm in a strange castle with all these machines and wires everywhere and a slightly mad scientist living in it. I guess that he built this place.

I'd hidden when I first got here, afriad that he might see me and send me back to the void or something but nothing happened. I remember that he even walked through me once, that was a shock!

So I'd given up trying to hide and just watched the man carry out his experiments, occasionally moving things about so that they're in his reach when he's looking for them. He never thanks me but I guess that happens when humans can't see you. They don't believe that you exist, like Notch I suppose, nobody's seen him but for some reason they believe in a man that created the world in six days rather than ghosts.

Where's the logic?

I kept close to the blonde scientist, my see-through form basically melting into his right shoulder whilst he tinkered with the various parts of machinery. Cocking my head to one side, I passed through the table and watched as he looked around frantically for some vital item.

"H2SO4! Where's the fucking acid?!" He yelled to himself, the machine whirring frantically and starting to spark. I sighed and floated over to where the beaker of Sulphuric acid and gently placed it on the worktop next to the frantic blonde.

His eyes caught it and he sighed in relief as he carefully poured it into a chamber of the machine and the sparking stopped, the machine hummed quietly instead of whirring and I two breath a ghostly sigh. He ran to the doorway, his blonde hair falling into his face in a sort of cute scruff and he scratched his stubble idly. I kept back from him, observing like I always do with humans.

"Kim! Kim! Come see this! It's working!" He yelled to the castle, I cocked my head and hovered waveringly. Kim? Who the hell was Kim? I've never seen anyone else in this castle. But none the less, I shared the blonde's enthusiasm for his work.

"Coming Duncan! Are you sure it's okay?" A tiny, silvery voice pipped up. I couldn't quite place the accent, was it American, Malasyian, or British even? I cautiously came forward a tiny bit, just enough that I was in the middle of the room.

A small girl with jet black hair came running in, little white flowers were tied into her locks and stopped at her waist. She wore a red and gold kimono dress thing, it was beautiful and I traced the patterns carefully. She wore black pumps and was obviously small in stature but not in spirit as I felt the fire of her soul burn inside her heart. I smiled a little. Two things learnt today. One, the scientist was called Duncan, and two, there was another girl called Kim living here with Duncan.

So many new things to process!

Duncan excitedly waved Kim over to the machine and she smiled and stood in awe as it flickered to life and created a little bronze creature. Kim seemed extatic about this creature as it pawed at her arm affectionatly, Duncan was grinning like a mad-man and I was giving my own grin and silent applause. Kim shuddered and turned around, I saw her eyes widen and I glanced over my shoulder. Nothing. I looked back at the small girl and she tugged Duncan's sleeve. He ignored her until she thumped him on the arm and he spun around in annoyance. She pointed at something in the air, like it was hovering. I furrowed my brow, what the fuck was she doing? My eyes widened in shock as she finally muttered one word.

"Ghost....."

I turned sharply and flew into the wall, passing through rooms that hadn't been opened in forever and things under construction. It wasn't until I reached a padded room with an old straight jacket in the corner that I stopped. My body wavering in uncertainty. Had Kim really seen me? If the answer was yes, then it was a massive leap forward in scientific discovery, but if she hadn't.... Then I guess I'd be alone forever. I hung my head and phantom tears started to fall, I curled up in the corner of the room and rocked back and forth. My head snapped up as I heard a voice, nobody ever came to this part of the castle anymore.

"Miss Ghost? Miss Ghost?" The silvery voice called, I sat in my corner, paralysed with shock as the door slowly creaked open......
