(Unedited)

I was just a toddler when the world went dead. My parents fought in the great war, between the humans and the monsters. I guess it was for the better, but we didn't win. All my neighbors were gathered and marched to Mt. Ebott, where I never saw them ever again. I missed my friends a lot. Even as a three-year-old, I noticed how different the world began to form. The grass wasn't as green, nor the sky as blue. Everything took on a new shade of gray as time went on. Clothes were gray, cars were gray, even skin and foods became gray. No one was allowed anywhere without an ID, not even an infant.

By the time I had reached age ten, the authorities found out that my parents had fought in the Great War, on the monsters' side of it. I hid in the cabinet just as the busted the door down. Through the small crack of the door, I watched in silent terror as they cut off the heads of my father, and then my mother. I didn't have time to mourn, though. As soon as the red crimson stained the wooden flooring, they began turning our home upside down looking for me. So I fled to the secret hole in the cabinet and gently shut it behind me. I crawled through the foundation, dirt coating every inch of my sweater, shorts, and legs. I grunted as I pulled myself out of the bottom of the house, and then I ran, without a moment of hesitation.

"Frisk," my father had told me. "If you ever find yourself alone, run to Mt. Ebott, and run to as far as the path will take you, and enter the cave. Only then will it be okay for you to fall."

His words echoed in my head as I sprinted through town towards the mountain. I ducked through the alleyways, jumped over dogs and cats in my path, and pushed my way through the swarm of people who walked in an ever straight fashion. For the first time, I felt my heart beat furiously in my chest. I felt my nails dig into my palms as I pushed myself to go faster, I felt the wind tug at my hair, resisting my speed and urgency. I felt my lungs start to cry out for oxygen, but most of all, I felt...

DETERMINATION.

As I reached the base of the mountain, I nearly stumbled over a root from a nearby tree. The howls of the bloodhounds in town kept me going. My mind raced as I sprinted up the mountain in a panicked state. I tripped and fell and scraped myself up beyond anything I ever had before, but despite the tears that went down my face I pressed on. I pressed on for my parents and for my own safety.

At the top of the pathway, the mountain crumbled down into the treacherous, bare trees, where there had been a forest fire from the war. To my left, was a cave so dark that I feared it would swallow me up. Perhaps this was the cave father meant. I hadn't seen another. So, timidly, entered the darkness. My legs wobbled as I began to grow weary from the long distance I had run. My heart slowed down just a bit as my lungs could now gulp down every molecule of oxygen it could get. However, in seconds, it stopped beating altogether.

My foot had slipped, but there was no ground to catch me. I felt like I had been falling for ages when in reality, it had only been a couple of seconds. With a less than expected painless thud, I sat up to find myself in a little patch of yellow flowers. 'How strange,' I thought. I grunted as I got to my feet and started looking around. But little did I know, that one of those yellow flowers were watching me.

"Howdy! I'm FLOWEY. FLOWEY the FLOWER!" It grinned at me. Startled, I stumbled back in shock. A talking flower? This couldn't be a monster, could it? The monsters told about at school were taller than seven feet, with gnarly teeth and rabies. The flower chuckled. "You're not from around here, are ya?" I shook my head softly, wiping some of the blood off my face and it narrowed its eyes at me. "You're hurt? Did humans do that? To their own?" I hesitantly nodded my head. "Well, then we better get you to Mo- I mean, Toriel! She can help!" I tilted my head. How was a tiny little flower going to move? Surely he didn't have legs...he zipped under the ground and appeared a few feet away. "Well, come on! It's a bit to walk!" I got back to my feet and followed the curious little flower around the purplish pink hallways. Everything was so colorful here. Was this what the world was like before the humans banned the monsters here?

I jumped back as a frog jumped in front of me. Or, I think it was a frog? It opened its mouth and out came a croak, but it spoke. "Froggit. Froggit Froggit." It croaked over and over. As I took a step back it leaped forward.

"Cut that out, Froggit!" Flowey yelled at them before they retracted back. "Sorry, most monsters still see humans as evil. B-but don't worry, I'll protect you! H-hey what's that look for?" I had just raised my eyebrow at him. A flower? How much harm could a flower do? I told him what was on my mind. He just laughed. "More than you think, human. Oh, by the way, what's your name?"

"Frisk."

"Frisk, huh? Weird name. But I guess mine's pretty weird too." He popped down below the ground and reappeared a good few feet ahead of me as we walked. After a very strangely long corridor, my eyelids started to sag. I just couldn't walk another inch. So I sat down beside a column and drifted to sleep, despite flowey attempting to keep me awake. 'Just a couple of minutes,' I promised myself. 'Just a couple,' and all my senses were drowned out by the blissful sleep that came.
