Elena looked over her shoulder rapidly. There wasn't anybody.
Or at least it appeared so. Whoever was there merged completely with the shadows around.

Indeed, it was dark.
Pitch black.
No moon, no stars.
It was as if light had never been brought to existence.

Elena felt as thought she was in a box. One so small, she could barely fit in it but at the same time it could contain the entire universe. It was a strange feeling really.

As the young girl was standing there in the quiet dark forest, she felt a heartbeat.
A loud one at that!
She slowly pressed her hand against her chest, but it wasn't pounding... It was awfully still. The heartbeat wasn't hers. As she realized that fact, it grew louder and stronger and louder and even stronger!

Elena snapped out of her stupor. She started running.
