Something about today seemed off. Like smoke was filling the air and slowly suffocating me from the inside out. That's when she smelt it...
Smoke.
She awoke with a jolt in the middle of the yard and her house was on fire. Her phone and charger lay beside her, along with her boyfriend... who was unconscious and burnt. Badly. Sirens wailed and caused her to turn her head, being blinded by red and blue flashing lights and a loud firetruck siren as well. Police got out of their cars and ran to them while firemen parked their trucks and pulled out hoses. What had happened? Faces she didn't recognize flooded her vision, concerned officers trying to get her to speak.
"Miss? Miss, are you okay?" A female officer asked. "Do you know what happened here?" She shook her head until it dawned on her. Olivia.
"Where's my sister?! She was just here!" Maya yelled.
"Ma'am, calm down. Everything will be okay, we'll find your sister, okay?" The officer assured her.
"Justin... Justin!" Maya cried, moving next to her boyfriend who lay unconscious. "Justin, answer me... Say something!" She pleaded. A paramedic pushed her out of the way. "He's my boyfriend!"
"Ma'am... I'm afraid he's passed away." Their words flooded her head but made no sense. He'd just been alive, breathing, kissing her. Then the fire started...
She fainted, hitting the ground with a thud.
