"Hey Sadie!" I nearly scream as she finally picks up the phone. She didn't answer the phone the first few times I'd called; it was almost like she'd hung up on me. I shook the thought from my head. Sadie wouldn't do that, right?
We were basically besties now, I would assume. Right?
But...what if she did? What if my assumptions were correct and she really didn't like me after all? My thoughts continued on this way until I hear a frustrated sigh and the phone beeps, disconnecting the call. I must've been in my thoughts for too long.
I call her back for the fifth time, only this time less zoned out than before.
"Sorry Sadie, I kind of zoned out on you..." I say hesitantly. I was bracing myself to hear her yell back at me for blowing up her phone, yet I hear her let out another long sigh,
"Let me guess, you want to speak to Nick?" I felt a tinge of guilt building up in my chest as I reply in the affirmative. I couldn't reach Nick's phone; he always had little to no battery so for the past few days, and so I had to call her. I talk to Nick almost everyday, and him not being able to charge his phone kind of messed that up. I didn't think it would bother her that much.
"Of course I also wanted to speak to you, but I really need you to call your brother for me, it's important." I quickly add.
I could almost see her rolling her eyes through the phone, "Whatever Ambrosia," she grumbles under her breath.
I half expected her to hang up on me right then and there, but after a few moment of silence, I heard her speak again.
"Yo Nick!" I hear her yell to Nick, "Your best-friend wants you." Her voice is directed back into the phone as she quickly says before handing the phone off to him,
"You have 30 minutes, then I want my phone back."
I couldn't help but feeling like she still didn't like me for some reason. I wonder what I said to get her so mad at me again. I was nothing to nice to her over the past few weeks we've been friends. This thus totally confused me. Then again, I shouldn't expect anything else though.
"Do you think she hates me still?" I ask Nick mid-rant. If there was one person in the world I could rant out my problems to, it would be Nick. He's practically built for that.
"Who?" He asks.
"Your sister, you idiot." I tell him."I..I don't know Star. You're better off asking her about it; it's not like I know what's going on in that small head of hers." He says sighing.
"I wouldn't even worry about it; it's not like you guys are super close besties or anything." He continued on.
"I know, I know. But the main reason she even didn't want to talk to me was because she thought I was using her to get closer to you."
"She said that?" He asked almost sounding surprised.
"Yeah... Let's just change the convo." I tell him, not wanting to waste the valuable time I had with him.We ended up talking for more than 30 minutes, and Sadie ended up lending him her charger instead of her phone.
"If you break that, I'm going to dismember you." She says. That made me smile honestly, she was rude but she also caring. If you really paid attention, she was kinda overprotective of Nick. It was my only chance to ask her; she had grabbed the phone back from Nick. I had to bring it up, it was bothering me for some time now.
"Hey Sadie, wait! Before you hang up, I have to ask something." I say chewing the inside of my cheek, I always did this when I started to get nervous. It was my go-to move.
"What is it, Ambrosia?" She asks, her words lacking all enthusiasm.
I inhale a huge breath of air before starting my rant , "I- Yes. I just wanted to ask...You seem like...You still kinda hate me, although you said that it was only because you thought I liked your brother and was just using him to get close to you. Now you know that's not the case, I thought you would be more friendlier, and you were for a while but now I feel like we are going back to how it was before. Ya know...when you didn't talk to me? I don't understand why. Was it something I did or said?"
I hear her chuckle, then break out in full on laughter, then it stops suddenly, her voice seems to get very serious. "You don't get it Ambrosia, do you? You are practically doing the thing I hate the most about every single one of my brother's friends. Every single time, it's like 'Hey Sadie! Can ya go get Nick for me?' Do you have any idea how annoying it is to get called every single day, and the call isn't even for you?" She stops for awhile catching her breath before continuing on,
" You say you want to talk to me too, but it's apparent that you don't. I'm not going to keep doing this for you guys. I get it that you like him Ambrosia, It's so obvious okay, but ask me to call him again one more time and I'm not going to talk to you again."
It left in awkward silence and I didn't know what to say. What should I say?
"I don't like him..." Is all I could muster out at the moment. So stupid. Why didn't I say anything else?I hear her chuckle again "Goodnight, Sia." She says softly.
"Yeah, night Sadie." I say before she hangs up.
