I stood for a few seconds and gazed back at the corner shop door. The man was allowing the customer to pay by card, a small smile still on his face. "Urm..Lee." I spoke. She turned to me. "I forgot something, I'll be two minutes." I assured her. Before she could speak I walked back into the shop, still holding onto that stupid packet of sweets. He finished serving the customer and when he looked up he was pretty surprised. "Hey." I smiled. "Hey, everything okay?" He questioned, looking towards the door then me again. "I'm really sorry." I let out quickly, feeling so bad for not saying it sooner. "I was so rude...I guess you could say I'm not having the best of mornings.." I let him know, strangely enough. "I mean, obviously, it's no excuse for being rude to someone like tha—-" I word vomited but he cut me off with a small chuckle.
"It's fine." He nodded. "Okay.." I laughed. "Great." I nodded, making shapes with my finger on the counter. "I'm not really a cashier." He told me. "I'm a magician, and if you'll let me, then what just happened will be on the show." He informed me. I let out a laugh. "So embarrassing." I told him, as he stared, almost as if he didn't want to take his eyes off of me. "You're the girl from the street aren't you?" He asked, making me feel warm. He did remember. I nodded with the smallest of smiles as I peered up at him, him already staring. His blue eyes so enticing and so homely.
My eyebrows almost turned into a frown as I tried to figure out why his eyes were so welcoming. "Anything else you need?" He questioned, leaning his hands on the counter. "Oh. Yes." I said, still staring at him. He gave a small smile and raised his eyebrows slightly. "Oh right." I chuckled. "I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime, like get a drink or...something?" I questioned him, continuing with making shapes with my finger. Feeling extremely nervous and probably extremely embarrassed if he said no. I gazed down at the black surface, waiting for a response. He reached into the sweet packet I held in my hand and took a sweet.
"Yeah. That'll be great." He told me with a smile. I felt the heaviness on my chest disappear and I wanted to scream with excitement. "I'm Sophie Throne." I told him. "I know." He let out. I frowned and went to question him. "I mean I know now." He grinned, causing me to smile. "Ben Hanlin." He said, holding out his hand for me to shake. He had a few silver rings on his fingers. I gently accepted it and shook his hand. "Great." I said, in amazement as we shook hands for a little too long and stared at one another for a little too long. "Well, Urm...I better be off." I let his hand go. He wrote something down on a sticky note and handed it to me. "My number, you know, in case you actually wanted to go on that date." His eyes shone with amusement.
I gently bit my lip and walked towards the exit. When I got outside my cheeks began aching from all the smiling. "What did you forget?" My sister questioned me, smoking another cigarette. I held up the sticky note. "The cashiers number." I grinned, causing my sister to laugh.
