A life begins

I was born in a little hospital in Houston Texas. It wasn't the cleanest but that was the least of anyone's concerns. They were just excited to see a new family member to be added to their little family in a matter of hours. A baby with grey eyes and light skin had come. "Oh my Lord, he's  blessed me with another granddaughter... With grey eyes can you believe that!" My grandmother exclaimed. "It'll eventually wear off." My mom assured her. And soon enough it did. It was replaced with beautiful brown eyes  that  my  grandma didn't  much  appreciate. We lived at our great-grandmothers at the time. It was hard those days. My dad already had a job in the army which he had to go back in a month and my mom was going to school and working. Money was always scarce and we were literally broke. My parents decide to spend some time together. " Fifty five dollars and twenty three cents. This should cover diapers and gas money" my dad sighs. They get in the car and buckle me and my big sister in our little seats. We start on the road and we stop in this abandoned parkway. My dad's car breaks down and there is no air conditioner. My parents start arguing. "I thought you got the car fixed Elijah!" My mom cries. "Mya relax when I get paid I'll get a new car" my dad promises. Me and my sister are sweating in the back. This only makes my mom feel worse. "Look at our children! They are sweating in the back with no air to keep them cool!" In the midst of all of the distress as a baby, I lift my hands and sing praises to the Lord. My parents stop arguing and turn to look at me. When I was finished I clasped my hands together and press my chubby face. After I finish the car starts and before we take off (of course) my parents take pictures. They say that's what moved them through that tight and desperate situation.
