Her feet burned as she ran through the darkness of the forest. Her royal robes were torn now, entangled several times in the branches and thorns around her. Her eyes kept blurring due to the tears that wouldn't stop. She wanted to scream and cry but all she had time was to run. Her feet caught in a long vine and she fell down scraping her knees but she got up again and ran.

If anyone saw here right then, they will never know she was the queen or the goddess of light. They would not know that under her powerful rule whole Kingdom perished while she just stayed hidden like a coward. It was when she saw her whole family being killed by a little girl, then she realized she needed to be her own savior and savior of her Kingdom.

The girl was barely fifteen, the one who walked around the Kingdom with the smog of darkness around her and her eyes a shade of pitch black. People called her Pandora because in whichever Kingdom she went to, she destroyed everything. She shattered everything and anything that came her way.

They said no one can ever defeat her but Queen proved everyone wrong as she engulfed all that darkness in herself being the goddess of light and ran away far away from the Kingdom, saving lives of thousands of people.

But she could contain the darkness for only so much longer as her body and soul started to give away. Her skin was withering and she felt someone choking her from within and yet she ran further in the isolation away from the living so that she could carry the darkness further. She knew that as soon as she dies, the power will be set lose yet again.

She needed a vessel, a vessel to contain the power for as long as possible.

But yet again she tripped in the dark, hopelessness engulfing her as she fell in the ground. Clutching her head in her hand she sobbed hard trying to think clearly through all this, trying to be the Queen she was raised to be but nothing helped. Her sacrifice was all going to be in vain.

"Trying to run from me, Queen? Not a smart choice." A dark figure approached her in the midst of nowhere.

All her running did her no good.

"Pandora." She said and the little girl became visible under the light of the moon.

Everything about her was sinister, her eyes, her smile even her shadow.

"How far did you think you could run, Highness." She mocked her.

"Stop this" Queen yelled.

"Why stop the fun?" Pandora said.

Queen looked around desperate to find an escape, a silver lining, anything.

"You will die soon and all this pain you are enduring will be worthless," Pandora said and closed in with a silver dagger gleaming in the moonlight.

Blood dripped from the dagger on the leaves below and sound made the Queen feel desperate.

She closed her eyes waiting for the evil to strike, waiting for the pain to end. But the hit didn't come. Instead, she heard the clash of metals ringing in the haunting silence of the night.

And she saw him, her ever loyal bodyguard standing against Pandora herself with his sword stopping her attack. Without her darkness, she was not that powerful and hence she staggered back as he powerfully counterattacked.

"Leave Devian." She yelled.

She didn't want him dead. He was precious to her.

"I took an oath to protect you with my life, I shall not leave you now." He said with determination as he defended the Queen with all his power.

The darkness burned her insides and she knew that anytime now she will die as everything inside will succumb to the pain. She saw the fighting man in front of her and came to a decision knowing well enough that this shall work. The one appointed to guard a Goddess of Light is even powerful than Queen herself. Only he could protect her and the darkness from unleashing.

Even though this would make him immortal and bring a lifetime of pain and misery, this was her only choice, her selfish choice. As Devian fought with Pandora, Queen closed her eyes letting the tears flow as she whispered her last incantation. The stench of blood from her body made her nauseous and she knew she was being ripped apart from inside.

But through the blurry vision, she saw the dark smog lifting from her and entering the body of her loyal bodyguard. He will hate her for this, he might even be influenced by the darkness but only someone like him could hold it for as long as possible.

The ground beneath them a shock as Queen's body hit the ground and all the power was now inside Devian. He felt a rush of energy not realizing what just happened as he struck down Pandora with a final powerful blow.

He turned to check on Queen when he realized that her wounded body now lay lifeless. Her lips were purplish as if she was poisoned and then his eyes landed on the black smog rising from his fingers. As his mind came to grasp the situation, he saw the two dead bodies around her. He finally understood that Queen has cursed her with the dark power to withhold within him for life.

I don't know how this went but this is how my brain visualized it. I hope this intrigued you enough to check out the next chapter. For anyone wondering this story is set in today's time era. Besides that, it is a story filled with angst and hate and I will try my best to write it down.
