Promise
"Eat a lot okay?" Garry said resting his chin on one hand with a crooked smile on his face.
It was a fine afternoon, sitting across him in a café was little nine-year old Ib who was pouncing hungrily on the 5 macaroons Garry has bought for her, along with a Vanilla milkshake to "shake" her spirits up.
It has been 2 weeks after the horrible incident in the loathed Gallery exhibit of Guertena. Of all places, Garry thought. He loves art, his whole life was and still is about art.
As an 18 year old, high school drop out, he devoted himself to painting and the love for anything art. He stopped school during high school which made his older sister disappointed with him.
She has been giving financial support for him to get through education and an apartment to live in. It was all fine until one day, Garry just realized going to school was useless, how could they possibly teach you anything about art? Well, aside from the basics of course but he believed a true artist doesn't need a teacher because he can only teach himself.
Unfortunately, only he thinks that's a good idea, because ever since then, his sister stopped helping him with finances while saying "Live your own life, I don't want any part of your bullshit!"
Since then, he bought himself an easel and oil paint with the money he had left and shifted from one job to another, especially being a high school mockery, no one would want to keep him long. He didn't have that many friends, not many understand his messy ways.
"Garry" little Ib spoke.
"Huh? What is it Ib?"
"Are you sure you don't want some?" she handed him a strawberry macaroon with her sprout hand.
Garry smiled then shook his head.
"No thanks Ib, I just had a big lunch"
"Okay" Ib smiled back and continued eating.
She liked being in Garry's company, he's like a big brother she never had. She feels like she can tell him everything.
Being a quiet, conservative little girl of two highly known Art Critics in the world, little Ib was mostly left alone with her grandparents while her parents travelled around the globe to go to art galleries.
Ib never really had a true friend, she hardly even spoke a word in her class. It feels as though Garry was the only friend she could ever have, even if she only knew him for a short period of time, even though he is way older.
"So do you like it?" Garry asked Ib.
She only nodded since her mouth was full.
"Its like the best thing in the world right?" he smiled cheerfully.
He liked this kid from the start, not because she only saved his life but because of the little bond they created in that horrible place. He feels like he needs to protect her no matter what.
"It's a good thing your parents let me bring you here Ib" he added.
He had met her parents and oh was he shocked. He never knew Ib was from a heavy line of respected known art critics through generations.
Remembering it just made him laugh.
Three days ago:
"Mommy, this is Garry" Ib introduced.
They were seated in a fancy Victorian themed family room of Ib's house.
Garry sat right across the two world known art critics and beside him sat Ib. "
