It was a normal day for the small family. At least, it was normal for Soundbyte. The small mechling had been watching his carrier pace around their section of the room, muttering to herself.
That much had annoyed fellow residents, so much so that she was slapped by a mech high on circuit boosters.
Where they lived it was never pretty, sharing a home -which was a fallen pipe large enough to fit many.- with several bots in a junkyard for a city.
"Carrier, when are we going? We haven't ate yet?" The blue mechling innocently asked, which earned a scoff from their neighbor. Before his carrier could reply, multiple shouts rebounded through the pipes. "Its massacre day!" All the voices yelled.
Massacre day, not a holiday any would like. It wasn't a holiday, but mere routine. The nobles would take their cats and hounds out for sport and control the population of Deadend; the home of the crooks, witches and the cursed.
Soundbyte, though didn't know better and hung into his carrier, feeling her discomfort. Soot covered bot against soot covered bot, the two stayed in one place.
After what seemed hours, the green and blue femme fell into recharge with Soundbyte intently looking outside. Oh how it was teasing. Beckoning for him to near. If only he could go outside to fuel, maybe then he could stay still.
Quietly he snuck from his mother's grasp and made his way into the open, he didn't see anything strange happening. Maybe the big bots were just afraid, but he wasn't. He was brave! Yeah, that's what his carrier said.
"Oi! Tha kids outside! E gon die!" A voice yelled, alerting the green blue femme. "Soundbyte?" She called looking around her. Without the mechling in sight, she looked outside and spotted two boltcats sneaking on the mechling. "Soundbyte!" She called louder, racing her way passed the spectators.
"Nothing's wrong mama, see?" He innocently smiled, though it went away at his mother's desperation. "Soundbyte get down!" She yelled the second the cat lept into the air.
Dirt and gunk flew, but loud yelps could be heard. Laughter rose from nobles as they called their cats off.
"Carry?" Soundbyte whimpered out, his carriers frame dropping beside him. "Carry!" He cried out, pushing against her energon covered chassis. "Wake up, please!" He cried, watching her frame grey. "Please, don't leave me." He whimpered, tears streaming down his face as he apologized.
