Prologue-

“Babe!” I laugh “Give me back my shirt.”

“No,” she snuggles up next to my crumpled up shirt while I stand at the foot of my bed. “It’s comfy and it smells like you.” She always does this, her favorite thing to do is make me late.

“C’mon,” I crawl over the bed and straddle her, tickling her sides. Her laugh fills the room like a symphony of the greatest music being played right in my bedroom. Now, this is my favorite thing to do. Imagine being a classical music enthusiast locked up in a room with Mozart. Well, that’s me. I’m a Marina-laugh-enthusiast.

“Okay, okay!” she gasps between laughs, “Take itttttt.” I peck her lips and grab my shirt, pulling it over my head. She pouts. “You look so much hotter without it.”

I stand up and chuckle, ironing out the creases on my shirt with my hands. Today’s the big meeting. I can’t screw this up if I want the money for a ring. Marina and I have been together for three years. Some of the happiest years of my life to be exact and I plan on spending the rest of them with her. I can imagine us growing older together and her having to spoon feed me with trembling aging hands. She’s the kind of beauty that could make wrinkles look like a blessing.

I must have been smiling like an idiot to myself because soon enough she calls out my name, “Liam?” she asks. I snap out of it and blush, looking at her.

“Hm?”

“Damn, you sure look pretty happy to be going to a stuffy office full of sweaty men talking about money. Should I be worried?” she smirks playfully.

“Ha. Ha. You’re so hilarious,” I roll my eyes. “I was just thinking about something funny…”

She sighs. “I hope you’re not still thinking about that stupid joke Bo said. You barely made it through sex without giggling about it.” I laugh at this. It’s true. She was all hot and bothered. Probably more bothered about the fact that the joke involved old people having sex and for some reason I kept thinking about it and ended up laughing. Sometimes humor overpowers hormones.

“No, I’m way over that.” I say, expanding my a’s for emphasis, and chuckle to myself. She rolls her eyes and laughs. I smile and peck her lips again.

"I have to go baby," I say. She pulls the covers over her body and stands up. "I love you."

"I love you too," she fixes my hair gracefully. "Knock 'em dead."

She follows me down as I grab my briefcase and open the door. "Don't miss me too much." I  say before I walk out. When I get to my car I hear her call out, "Didn't count on it!" with a heartfelt laugh. That laugh. Goddamn that laugh drives me crazy.

I never knew I could love a laugh so much. I never knew I could love someone so much. I never knew I could also miss it more than I could love it. I never knew I could miss her more than I loved, well, love her. And Jesus fuck, I miss it. I miss her.

I miss her so much.
