"Get up Regan, I need your help!"
Last thing Regan remembered was lying in his bed, reading a book. And then, apparently, he fell asleep because now, Kalena was standing over him, blabbering about Charles and an open tab.
He rubbed his eyes and looked around him. His book about hunting, the one he bought on his last visit to Raithow, laid open next to him. The curtains were open and the sun was shining bright, lighting up his dark blue room. How did he fall asleep with so much light in the room?
The rest of the books he bought in Raithow was neatly arranged on his work table, next to the windows. Although his room was a bit smaller than Kalena's, he also had his own bathroom and a dressing room. The walls were filled with souvenirs he brought from his trips along with the ones Kalena brought him. His room looked more like a small library due to all the books Regan collected over the years.
Reading was his passion. He read anything from history books to novels more suited for women. Maybe that's why he was so successful in winning over the ladies. He learned to become their prince charming or a knight in shining armor. Besides, women appreciated his various book knowledge, just like the one in front of him did.
Kalena was pacing in front of his bed, talking too fast for him to comprehend.
"Len, please slow down," he sighed, "I don't understand a word you're saying."
She took a long breath and came to sit next to him.
"Okay, first, good morning sleeping beauty," she said cheerfully.
He chuckled and lazily threw a pillow at her. She flashed him a grin and continued: "First, you miss morning training and now, you sleep through the day. Raithow treated you nicely."
"I have to make up for all the sleepless nights in Raithow," he said with a smirk.
"I don't even want to know," she groaned. "Anyway, I need to lure out Charles and his rebels. And I need you to help me."
"Okay, I'm listening," he said and sat up. Now things got interesting.
"We are opening a celebratory tab at Lucinda's tavern. Well, I am, I need you to spread the word."
Lucinda was the owner of the biggest and most famous tavern in Carrvana. Whenever someone organized an open tab at Lucinda's, the whole of Carrvana heard of it.
"Do you think Charles would fall for that?" he asked skeptically.
"No, but his companions will. They can't say no to free drinks," she said with a grin.
After Kalena explained her plan, Regan agreed to help her. Although he was a bit disappointed that he wouldn't be helping in an actual search for Charles, he was glad she asked for his help. This was her mission, after all.
"Okay, I'll wait for you in the entrance hall," she said and made her way to the door.
"Kalena, wait," Regan followed her, "I have something for you."
He rummaged through the drawer next to his bed while Kalena curiously looked at him.
"I know it's probably not what you expected, but I hope you'll like it," he said, handing her a black box with the necklace he bought for her in Raithow.
She opened the box and surprise flashed in her eyes.
"Regan, you shouldn't have. It looks too expensive," she said, examining the necklace. Regan could see the excitement in her eyes that she always tried to hide along with that girly side of her. He never understood why she had the urge to hide her feminine side. He guessed growing up to be an assassin, surrounded by men, wasn't exactly easy for a girl.
