Being an assassin wasn’t exactly an easy job for the most part, but Luke was the best one out and to be frank you were sure he didn’t need you around but nonetheless, every job he accepted, he always pulled you aside and clued you in on his plan of attack. You’d been his partner for about a year now. He made most of the kills though – you were just there as somewhat a support unit for him, in case there was a fuck up; he very rarely missed but in those times, he’d turn to you to get the two of you out of there as fast as possible. It was usually your job to scout and surveillance the area while he set up, learn the fastest routes to the highest points of the buildings and sometimes even hack into the security systems.

You didn’t exactly know much about Luke. He was never one to talk much in the first place but you were sure he knew more than he needed to know about you from the countless times you’d rambled on about anything and everything on the way to and from your jobs together. He didn’t seem to mind that you talked a lot; you’d always been good at talking with others though so it was only natural.

Luke set up his sniper rifle and scope, adjusting everything to a T while you kept a clear look out by entrance of the small room to the two of you occupied, glancing back at his long figure hunched over as his fingers fiddle with the rifle in hand. You let out an airy sigh, your brow furrowing a little as you shifted you sleeve up to view the time display on your watch before Luke waved you over. “Set this up for me.” He murmured, his eyes totally fixated on the scope in hand as he motioned over to the small stand he usually used to for a steady shot. You gave a nod of your head, shifting over to grab it before fixating it in place and moving yourself back to the door to stand watch again, half watching Luke.

You were no doubt attracted to him to stay the least, and admired his perfect side profile from afar; the way he chewed on his lower lip, taking the black titanium lip ring between his teeth as he tugged it a little in full concentration, taking aim while shifting the rifle a little as he followed his target, his jaw clenching while his adam’s apple bobbed slightly when he swallowed hard before pulling that very trigger. You knew it was a direct and successful hit by the way he slowly pulled back, watching the crowd below scatter frantically at his doings. You slid yourself over to while he unloaded the rifle, packing it and the scope back in the case he always kept it in while you stuffed the remainder of the items in the small duffle bag before slinging it over your back; the two of you making a break for the door before anyone even thought of looking for you both.

Luke popped the boot of the sleek black commodore you’d both arrived in as you placed the duffle bag and rifle’s case in, piling into the car yourself. You sunk back in your seat a little, your fingertips lightly drumming against your thighs while Luke drove and fiddled with the radio, trying to find a decent station to leave it on to break the usual tense atmosphere between the two of you. Although you’d been partners for a little over a year now, things still got awkward. You weren’t sure what to talk about sometimes and you weren’t usually one to pry on other’s lives, even if you didn’t know much about Luke at all, so you’d just stay silent.

Luke heaved a heavy sigh, his nose wrinkling a little at the build-up of traffic just before the high way turn off while you peered out the tinted glass of the windows, up at the sky. The sky was almost a blackened grey mess, the late afternoon sun barely illuminating the sky from behind all that darkness. You tore your eyes away from the window, glancing over at Luke who seemed a little less tense as the traffic started to ease up, letting him slowly roll off the main road to merge into the highway lane. You knew it was too good to be true when the weather report playing on the radio contained extreme weather warnings on ghastly strong winds, violently heavy rain accompanied by thunder and very high chances of lightening within the next hour or so. This was expected to go on for days and you were due back at HQ before long to report your progress.
