Such a fine line

2. - The unforeseen stumble -

It was next morning already , Grace was lying down on her bed and as her cell phones alarm clock kept ringing , she slowly started to sit down . the alarm stopped . While standing up her cells screen went on . Grace sat down on her bed again to check her phone , she unlocked it and the first thing it showed was the WhatsApp icon showing it had a message . she opened and saw , she had received a text from her bestie , Emma .

Grace stood up and went to her bathroom to change to her outfit . She wore a light brown beige turtleneck with a cute A line black skirt and some boots . As soon as she finished getting ready she went downstairs to grab a snack to eat on the way .

But while heading to the door , her mother shouted at her

" where are you going Grace ? " her mother asked .

" Oh , right , I forgot to tell you , Emma asked me to meet her at the Grinders "

" But don't forget to go to the memorial after ok ? "

" Of course I won't miss it " she shouted .

Grace opened the door and made her way to the coffee shop . As she enters through the old door from the grinders , she saw Emma , who had already searched for a seat for them to sit on . She was waving her hand at Gracie from the last table on the left , the one which was placed in front of a window , one of the few windows there were and headed towards her .

She sat down and started talking to her best friend . After a while she noticed Anna getting upset , but what was it about ? . "Whats wrong " Grace asked . " Nothing , Nothing is going on " Emma answered . She kept thinking what was the thing Emma was bothered about , then she looked at her bestie again , but Emma was looking to her right and that's when Gracie knew . She knew exactly what was going on .

"of course , how could I be so stupid , that I just realized what is happening " Grace exclaimed . Emma looked weird at her friend , who was just about to figure out the true reason . " It is Grayson isn't it ? and his girlfriend Liv , right ? . Emma nodded . She had never told anyone about it , but Grace as her best friend figured it out . Not too long after , a group of cheerleaders of the school came through the door and without flinching headed towards the teams table , and by that I mean the Jocks table , where all the handsome football players of the panthers , the schools football team sat . And of course everyone knew why they were there . For Dan obviously , the teams captain . Every single one of those poor girls were standing in front of that table trying desperately to get his attention . How foolish they were . not them nor anyone else would stand a chance to be with him . He was not particularly known for wanting to be involved in something serious . Every time this would happen , he would let these annoying girls to flirt with him and just passively ignore them . If by any chance one of them was lucky enough , he would by her a drink or too and maybe even hook up with her , next day he would act as if nothing had ever happened , as if he had never heard of her , not because he wanted a reputation , it is just that he simply didnt care at all . The once lucky girl , would now be forgotten .

Thats why some , stop trying but others are foolish enough to think that they could change him , like a miracle of some way , thinking that with them it would be any different than the last one . And not to forget that the other minority wouldn't even care getting rejected multiple times , They just wanted to get noticed , how desperate of them .

The cheerleaders came nearer to the table where Dan , Grayson and the rest of the football team where sitting . They were hitting on the captain like crazy , but he would keep on ignoring them , but they still insisted , they weren't going to stop anytime soon and for the first time ever , Daniel would loose his chill temper , he turned his head towards the girls and told them to go anywhere , but near them .

They listened and did as he told them so , in fact they weren't even going to stay at the cafe .

Moments after , Daniel went to the bartender and asked for his americano . Emma and Grace had to get going too , they had to get ready for the memorial , if not they wouldn't make it , so they took their purses , stood up , went to the bar and paid . Now they would return and on their way Grace stumbled with something , that made her drop her purse . She kneed down to pick it up and as she was , That something or rather that someone , Daniel , help her . They both stood up , slowly and as she shyly looked at him , he smiled at her, and with his finger , he put a little string of his hair back in its place and made that attractive little smirk he always does .

" Are you coming ???? "Emma asked . But Grace was still standing there as if she didn't hear any of what her bestie was telling her . She was in her own world , Grace didn't even notice , Dan was still in front of her . " UUUmmm yeah Im coming " she responded , as she left that silent situation . she walked away , a few steps after she turned her head back at him , but he had already also turned around and didn't notice her looking at him .

Emma and Grace went out of the coffee shop and made their way to Annas place , to get ready . They were both dressed in formal funeral clothes and as Emma was putting her mascara on , she asked Grace " so about what happened at the grinders before ... " Grace looked at Emma , trying so hard to erase the smile she had on her face " what about it ? " she answered .

" Come on G , are you for real ,  just admit it already ! " Emma insisted . " look E I don't know what you thought you saw but fact is that i was heading to the door when I tripped because of my clumsiness into Daniel , that's it "

" So you are going to ignore the fact that the teams captain , aka the most wanted boy in our entire school , and yourself were staring at each others eyes for god knows how long and you were suddenly for a lost of words " Emma said annoyed . " I mean yes he is extremely good looking , but he is also the most infamous player I have ever known and you know for a fact Im not particularly crazy about those , not since Brandon . I promise you Em that if I like someone you'll be the first one to know . "

E and G went downstairs heading to the garage and drove to the memorial together with Emmas moms car . As soon as they arrived they saw all of the parking places full , lots of people would have liked Sandra at least that is what Gracie thought . After minutes searching , they finally found a parking lot but before they could take it , Jason , Gracies older brother took it from them .  " you are so selfish Jason , I hate you " Grace shouted at her brother " Good the feeling is mutual little sis , next time make yourself a favor and be faster " Jason savagely responded . Luckily soon enough they found another place , they both got out of the car and went to grab a seat for the crowded memorial .

Walking through the elegantly decorated venue , they saw a lot of people , from extended family , to parents , friends , just classmates and even people who didn't care about her that they didn't even know her name was Sandra . Definitely no one was missing , but of course , who in their right mind could miss an event that involved paying respects to a teenage girl and her family . G sure couldn't .
