A letter came in the post today, my lover's name scrawled across the top. I eagerly opened it. Lavender wafted off the thin, expensive stationary.

The envelope still seemed heavy, so I tipped it. Out rolled a ring onto my hand. I studied it, the excitement of the letter fading. Proposing through a letter? Was that the best he could do? I contemplated a world with that ring around my finger.

I shook my head, tossed the ring into a new envelope, and passed it along with the outgoing mail. He will receive the same treatment he delivered.
