If one thing was certain, Blake Mccoy wasn't good at making friends. She made it her personal goal to fly under the radar of bullies and popular kids throughout middle school. She was a wallflower and she liked it that way. Friends were exhausting, and Blake much rather preferred the company of a good book rather than another human being.

Well, that was until Blake came across Beverly Marsh hiding in the girl's bathroom one day. Blake might've been socially awkward, but she knew that Beverly was going through a lot judging by the black bruise on her cheek, and the tears streaming down her freckled face. Blake, in a gesture of kindness, offered Beverly a package of Sweet Tarts as a measly attempt to cheer her up.
