"OKAY, SAY IT WITH ME, miss," Beverly said, looking at her 6 year old daughter. Beverly knew her daughter, Emilia, had a lisp when she talked to her for the first time in the adoption center.
"Mith!" Emilia responded, still satisfied with the way she was saying it. She didn't understand why her Momma kept having her say the same thing over again. "Momma, I don't get it—""I'm home!" Blake yelled out as she walked into the house from her day at work. Blake was a therapist in the city—since she lived at a beach in a small cottage, she didn't get home until late afternoon. Blake hung her coat up and put her purse on the couch.
"Mom!" Emilia exclaimed as she came running out of her room and towards her mother.
"Hi!" Blake replies, holding her arms out so she could pick her up. She could see that her daughters dimples were evident on her dark chocolate skin from the way that she was smiling. Beverly walked out of Emilia's room, happiness written all over her face."How was work?" Beverly asked as she kissed her wife's cheek.
"The usual," Blake sighed. Don't get me wrong—Blake loved being a therapist, she loved helping people, just at times, she needed a change."Mom!" Emilia said, poking Blake's cheeks until she regained her mother's attention.
"Yes, my darling?"
"Can I have some ice cream?" Beverly chuckled, taking Emilia out of Blake's arms and carried her back to her bedroom.
"Too early for ice cream. I know you're tired, how about you take a nap?"Their voices drifted away like dust and Blake didn't listen to their conversation after that. All Blake could bring herself to do was smile. Oh was she lucky. She felt 13 years old again; having a contagious smile that wouldn't go away due to Beverly Marsh. Well, who was now Beverly McCoy-Aaron.
Beverly turned the light off in her daughters bedroom and closed the door.
"She'll be asleep in a few minutes," Beverly informed as she approached her wife. Blake stood in their kitchen looking for something to eat — it was days like these where she regretted not eating breakfast.
"Good," Blake smiled, closing their fridge.Blake felt like the luckiest girl ever. Her and Beverly met again at a pride parade. Blake was using her lesbian flag as a jacket and Beverly bumped into her. Then, five years later, they had a family, and a ring to symbolize everything they fought for.
Turning around, Beverly wrapped her arms around Blake's waist. She pecked Beverly's lips, running her hands over Beverly's arms and shoulders.
"I love you," Beverly confided, the gentleness of her angelic voice making the 3 words sound like the first time they said it to each other.
"I love you too."
