Daniel's POVDamn it! Damn it! Damn it! Daniel Rojas internally chastised himself for being so stupid. He had a hunch that today was going to be a bad day from the moment he work up. From the moment that his phone decided to die in the middle of the night, thus forcing the alarm on his phone to not go off, causing him to wake up over an hour late. When he finally got everything in order, his car refused to start. Apparently the battery in his car decided that it was going to refuse to work as well. He wanted to call up headquarters and have them send over the company car, but he knew that it would take too long for the chauffeur to get all the way out to his house in D.C. with the limo at this time of day. So, with no car, Daniel was forced to rough it and walk/run to his client’s hospital.
He knew about this meeting for months. How could he be running this late? Why didn't he prepare better? I could’ve used a real alarm clock, instead of using the one on my phone, he chastised to himself. Of course, Daniel knows that his father at the moment must be cracking a joke about how his eldest son is always running late. Daniel knew he was going to regret it, but he took a look at his watch anyways: 9:45 a.m. Forty-five minutes late. How was he supposed to explain his tardiness to his client? This was his first official meeting with a client since his father passed the CEO position for Rojas Inc. to him, and he was already screwing it up. Daniel began to run faster, praying to the gods that his client would understand.
After running for 15 more minutes, Daniel is successfully an hour late for the meeting with a potential client that he help to set up. However, hope begins to shine down on him, as he sees the building coming into view on the horizon. Standing at 40 stories high, with windows panes making up most of what is the front wall, is the hospital that Daniel was supposed to be at almost more than an hour ago.
Catching his breath before he made his way inside, Daniel braced himself for what his client would have to say about his tardiness. Even I know that this is inexcusable. Oh well, time to go in and face the music. Straightening his tie and wiping the sweat off his forehead with his handkerchief, Daniel made his way inside of the beautiful Children’s Hospital of Washington D.C.
Stepping inside of the building is a breathtaking experience. The lobby is a huge room completely filled with natural light from the outside. A reception desk, manned by three nurses, sat in the middle of the room. To the left of the desk, there was an automatic, glass door that read CLINIC, and next to the clinic there was a room with no doors, but above it read PHARMACY. The walls in the lobby, however, were the most beautiful thing in the hospital. They were covered with a collage of paintings from all the small patients, both current and former, in the hospital.
Daniel wished that he had more time to look at the adorable paintings from the kids, but he knew that he had to remedy his situation first. He quickly walks up to one of the nurses behind their station, and he says, “Excuse me…”
“Yes, can I help you, sir?”
The nurse that responded to him was a very attractive woman. With golden curls framing her heart shaped face, her beautiful green eyes, with a lovely mole under her left eye, were accented. Her cute, little button nose had a small piercing on the right side and her luscious lips were covered in shiny pink lip gloss. “I’m here to see the Dean of Medicine for this hospital.”
Her jade eyes widened in surprise. “I don’t think that she had any meetings scheduled for today…hang on let me contact her and ask…” She picks up the phone and punches in three numbers, and then she points in the direction of the benches against the wall. “Please feel free to sit down while we figure out what’s going on.”
