The world is a terrible place, full of loneliness, pain, and despair. Pain can consume a person, leaving them feeling as if they are falling into a never ending pit of darkness, the dim light of hope and happiness moving farther and farther away. Memories of heart breaks overshadow the more joyous ones, each one leaving a person feeling as if a knife has been shoved into the chest, tearing the heart to shreds once more.
Who would ever want to live in a world like this? A world where dreams never come true, and there are no happily ever after, a world where for every good occasion there are ten bad ones following it. How can there be so many people that can handle the pain that the world brings, and so few that find a way to escape from the world and end their misery? There are so few people that cheat the system, and are brave enough to escape from it all. One would think that everyone would try to escape, if given the chance.
Walking through the woods behind her house Nadia headed to her favorite hideout, an opening with a large willow tree and a pond in the center. Heading to the bench under the willow tree, she pulled out her knife that glistened in the sunlight. Slowly she slices her wrist open and stares at the blood trickling down the blade of the knife. It is amazing to think that blood is the symbol for both life and death. Nadia decides that this should be the end of it, the end of her life, and the end of the torment. She begins to slice her wrist more and more, willing her blood to pour out of her veins and into the grass below, before moving on to her next wrist. This is the end. Nadia kept tearing at her skin, slicing thin lines into them, and pouring her own blood upon the earth until she finally fainted from loss of blood, with a smile on her face and tears running down it from finally putting an end to it.
That is how Joshua found her not ten minutes later, slumped on the ground and pouring blood. Calling for help he got her to the hospital just in time to save her life. Four days later she awoke from a coma in a hospital bed, looking up into the eyes of her best friend. Nadia would not still be alive had Joshua not saved her, and though she refuses to admit it, he knows that she is glad he found her and brought her the help she needed, to lead the life she deserved. Joshua was the lighthouse to save her from the stormy sea of emotions, and prove to her that the world isn’t as terrible as it may seem.
