"What do you mean 'there's no cure?!'" Guillermo screamed in panic. "We came all this way, there has to be something!"
Greg shook his head. "It says right here, Guillermo. She tried everything over and over again, and had no luck. And now, she's dead..." he sighed as he looked at him. "Well, since now we know, I think it's time we end this." He aimed his pistol at him.
Star stared in confusion and fear. "Greg, what are you doing?" She quivered.
"He's infected, Star. He lied about his knife wound," Greg said.
Guillermo aimed his gun at Greg, angrier than he got in the car. "I thought I told you not to tell her!" He screamed.
"It's better than lying to her," Greg replied. "And plus, with that, now would be a good time to explain your sudden change in demeanor."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Guillermo asked in confusion.
"I'm talking about you snapping and screaming, almost causing Star to have a panic attack!" Greg replied loudly.
Guillermo looked down. All of his thoughts were racing through his mind, plus the paranoia of soon becoming a zombie, it was weighing him down. He felt like he was dead weight, since he got bitten, but he didn't want to believe it. "You wouldn't understand," he said as he lowered his gun. "Ever since I got bit, I was hoping there would be a cure, but there isn't. And now, I have to live with the fact that I'm gonna become one of those undead flesh eaters... and I hate it."
Greg sighed and shook his head. "Guillermo, if you really think that you're gonna be one of them, you have another thing coming," he stated as he put his finger on the trigger. "There's no way around it, so, you could either die now and still be a human, or you could live to see yourself become a monster."
Guillermo sighed audibly, but soon started wheezing and coughing. His coughs would bring up some blood, dark, crimson red blood. He felt it in his body, it was getting worse. "Fuck!" He said.
Greg sighed. "I'm sorry, Guillermo."
"No, leave me alone!!" Guillermo screamed as he shot Greg in the arm. He then darted out the front door as fast as he could, not looking back.
Greg fell to the ground, kneeling and screaming. "Fucking hell!" He peeked behind him. "Go after him!"
Star heard this and started sprinting. She got out the front door, frantically searching for Guillermo, but had no luck. He was gone, and he left her behind, along with everyone else. She went back in with tears streaming down her face.
Both Natalie and Greg saw this and went to comfort her. Greg looked down and held her in his arms while he lightly brushed her hair. "It's okay, it's okay," he kept repeating.
Natalie knelt beside her and kept rubbing her back. "We'll find him," she said.
Star just kept sobbing. "He left... he fucking left..." she kept crying. "He promised me he wouldn't..."
Greg felt his heart break in two. He wanted to tell her he didn't mean it, but even he knew that was a lie. He ran out, left them behind. He would've rather become a zombie than die a human. Not even Greg knew what to say about that.
Heather, who had tried to distract herself, was reading the note the doctor left, and noticed something on the back. It was another section.
"P.S. If you see Natalie, tell her that the experimental transfusion has a consequence that I wasn't able to fix. I was able to bring her back, but her brain is slowly deteriorating. This is because of how long she was dead for... I'm sorry..." Heather fell silent.
Brandon stood up and went to the door. "Hey guys? I don't mean to break up the drama, but we need to get out of here. If there's any zombies in this building, they sure as shit heard that shoot off."
Greg nodded as he covered his wound. "He's right, let's get out of here before we become dinner."
They step out the front door, going towards Greg's Impala, and soon stood dumbstruck.
"Wait a minute... Where's the truck?!" Brandon asked in anger.
Greg looked all around, it had disappeared. He checked around the area, looking at the asphalt. Tire tracks were in the spot where the truck once was. That only leaves one explanation. "Guillermo... he hopped in and got the hell out of dodge," he said as he sighed. "That means, for right now, we all have to ride in my baby." He pointed to the Impala.
A few hours had passed, they all left the lab. They ended up grabbing a few rooms at an abandoned hotel in Flower Mound.
Brandon, Heather and Natalie ended up sharing a room together, since there was only a bed and a sofa in each room. At the moment, they were just chatting, discussing some old trivial things that seemed so important back when the world wasn't so fucked up.
"I used to hate having to give public speeches, but now that there isn't even a person alive that isn't a zombie or a psycho... I kinda miss it," Natalie said.
"Yeah, now that the world is pretty much screwed, things didn't seem so bad back then," Brandon sighed.
"Yeah..." Heather drifted off. "Well, I'm gonna head to bed."
"Same here," Natalie said.
"Right behind you," Brandon chimed in as he fell on the sofa.
Natalie and Heather had sat on the bed not even for five minutes until Heather sighed heavily. "Natalie?" She said.
"Yeah?" She answered.
"There's something you should know..."
Greg and Star were in another room, sitting down on the bed and trying to keep their spirits up. Occasionally, they would bring up a topic of discussion, but they didn't stay on it for long.
"Greg?" Star said.
"Yeah, Star?" He answered.
"Do you think he ever loved me?" She asked in a choked up voice.
Greg fell silent. He wanted to say yes, but he didn't know. Nobody would ever leave someone they love because they didn't want to die. Or, at least that's what he thought. "I don't know," he said. "Why?"
"Because this isn't the first time he's done this..." she explained. "He was like this before he went to DC with you, he would leave for days without talking to me or anyone. And he would always leave me in the dark... I had to force us to stay together..."
Greg fell silent. He didn't even know about this. "You didn't tell anyone?"
"I didn't want to believe it myself..." she sighed as a tear came down.
Greg couldn't say anything at that point. He knew what that was like, not wanting to believe the worst about somebody. It kills you slowly, trying to defend them, and then after you see it for yourself, you feel stupid. You feel like you should've known, but at the same time, you know you wouldn't have listened even if someone pointed it out. "I know all too well how that feels..." he said silently. He stood up and went to the restroom.
"Greg?" Star looked in concern.
"Just getting out of my shirt," he said as he threw it off, revealing his body.
Star blushed slightly, and felt her heart skip a beat. She knew Greg since high school, and sorta felt this... connection, for lack of a better word. She felt safe around him, like she wasn't so... lonely. What was this feeling? "Do I... do I like him?" She whispered to herself. She felt her heart skip a beat again, like it was answering her question, a subtle "yes." She stood up and approached him. "Greg?"
He turned around and looked at her. "Yeah?" He answered, his eyes slightly dilated.
"Can I ask you something?" She blushed slightly.
"Of course, you can ask me anything," he went and sat on the bed. 'That's weird, why do I feel so... anxious?' He thought.
Star sighed. "Well, ever since you and I met, I sorta felt like you and I had a connection. Like fate had a plan for us to meet."
Greg scoffed. "I don't believe in fate, Star. Do I believe you and I were meant to have met, yes. But fate is nothing more than a bunch of bullshit. You make your own fate," he told her. "That's why I kept a lot of things buried, like-" he stopped himself short.
"Like what?" She asked.
"It's nothing," he responded. He had kept silent about it for the last few years, ever since she and Guillermo got together. He didn't want to interfere, so why would he say it now?
"Greg, tell me, please," she said softly.
Greg stared at her, tears forming in his eyes. He knew what it was, that same connection, his heart racing and skipping beats, it was written all over his face. He decided. "Like me being in love with you..."
Star stared in shock. "What?" She gasped.
"It's true. Ever since you and Guillermo got together, I had to keep it buried. It killed me seeing you with him, and it kills me now that he hurt you so much," he confessed. "I've held back so many things. I held that back because I didn't want to hurt you or him... but I can't hold it back anymore."
Star just kept listening.
"I love you, Star," Greg told her in a soft voice. "I always have."
She didn't know what to say. She just stood in complete shock, trying to comprehend all of it. Her best friend just confessed his love for her, and the more shocking of it all is that she feels the same way.
Greg sighed and stood up, going to the door. "I shouldn't have said that," he said out loud, trying not to break down.
It was then that Star stood up and walked to him. She stopped him from leaving by hugging him. She leaned towards his face, pressing her lips against his while closing her eyes.
He felt her lips connect with his and closed his eyes. All of that inhibition that was left just disappeared. In that moment, he held her and slowly deepened the kiss.
They both fell on the bed as they locked lips again. This time, Greg slowly slid his tongue into her mouth, causing her to moan slightly as they played tonsil hockey. He stopped for a minute so that he could help her out of her shirt, which she let him take it off of her.
She smirked slightly as she unbuttoned his jeans. She leaned in for another kiss, but instead kissed his neck.
He moaned slightly and slid his jeans off. Even him throwing those off made him feel like he was in sweet euphoria. "Wait."
"What's the matter?" She asked.
"Are you sure about this?" Greg asked
Star nodded and kissed his cheek. "Just be gentle, please," she whispered as she slid her pants off.
Greg nodded as he slid his boxers off, revealing his member. Although he felt like he wasn't confident in his size, he still felt like it was enough.
Star took a look, and almost froze. "Whoa." She was awestruck by the sight of it.
Greg stared at Star, mesmerized by her beauty. "Are you positive that you want to do this?"
Star nodded again. "Just be careful."
Greg nodded as he leaned in for another kiss. Both of their lips locked as he slid into her slowly.
She moaned at the sensation that flew through her body. It was a sense of both pleasure and pain.
Greg froze for a minute as he saw her wince a bit. He didn't want to hurt her. "Are you okay?" He asked in concern.
She nodded, "Yeah, I'm okay," she whispered. "Keep going."
He started thrusting back and forth slowly, moaning at each thrust. This feeling, peaceful yet anxious. "Star~" he moaned as he sped up.
Star kept moaning as she leaned towards him. The feeling of him moving in and out of her gave her a feeling that most people would describe as ecstasy. She wanted this feeling for the rest of her life, this feeling of bliss and happiness. "Greg~" she moaned his name while smiling.
About an hour passed. During that time, Greg and Star were both in the heat of the moment, moaning while kissing each other. She would occasionally say his name in the most sensual voice possible, and he would respond by saying her name while moaning, or by pulling her in for another kiss. After this last kiss, though, Greg pulled out and moaned loudly, making a mess all over Star's stomach.
She moaned loudly herself, and started breathing heavily. "Holy shit~" she moaned out as she peered down at her stomach. "You couldn't have just finished in me?"
Greg stared at her in shock. "As much as I want to be a dad, I don't think that's a good idea right now," he said.
Star laughed. "I know, I'm just messing with you," she said as she pulled him in and kissed him softly. "Let me go clean this off."
Greg blushed slightly. He put his pants on and laid down. He couldn't wrap his head around what he was feeling. He was happy again, but at the same time, he was afraid. After what happened last time he was with someone, he felt like he couldn't protect her.
Star had came back out and laid down with him, laying her head on his chest, hearing his heartbeat. "Its calm, but still with a hint of fear," she said. "You don't have to worry, Greg. We'll survive this..."
Greg looked at her. "I'm just afraid. I don't want you to die because I couldn't protect you..."
Star shook her head as she kissed his cheek. "I'm not gonna die. Not now, not here. And I know if anything should happen, you would be there. I feel safe with you."
Greg felt a wave of joy flow through him as she said that. "Really?" He asked.
She nodded. "I trust you, completely."
Greg held her close and kissed her forehead. "I promise that I won't let anything happen to you." He smiled as he closed his eyes. "Star?"
"Yes, Greg?" She responded softly.
"Stay with me?" He asked.
Star smiled sweetly and laid her head down on his chest again. She held his hand gently as she closed her eyes. "As you wish," she said.
