"The way someone lives reveals a lot about them, I hope you know." The mistrustful woman asks as she slowly steps out of the dark blue car and out onto the poorly kept lawn.
She straightens her tie and swipes her hands down her blazer to dispose of any loose hairs or wrinkles that may be visible and perhaps show lack of proficiency in her area of expertise, though she doubts the man living in the house in front of her would notice.
The house was visibly old and at first glance you would assume it was abandoned. "Please tell me this is the wrong place." Her unamused tone had a hint of hope in it, however the silence that followed her question made her sigh and look back up at the building. The lawn was a sickening yellow-green colour, proof of lack of proper treatment, the weeds and bits of grass randomly sprawled across the dirty concrete path leading up to the red door that had parts broken off it and small patches of paint shedding off the old wood. The house as a whole was what seemed to be white but then again you couldn't tell due to the yellow tint certain parts had. The windows had green mildew forming in the corners.
The agent grimaced and tried to hide a scowl that overcame her features. "Well? Go get your new partner Sor-" The hard glare the woman shot the man behind her made him correct himself "-I mean Agent Brown" A sharp nod was all he received at his correction as she slowly makes her way up the steps to the old home.
Reaching the door and looking at the cliché door mat that says 'Whalecome friends!' with a cartoon whale over the writing. "Oh dear lord give me patience cause if you give me strength all of these people will be dead in a nanosecond" Brown closes her eyes and whispers to herself before landing a firm knock on the door. She looks down and adjusts her glasses before she hears shuffling and out of the corner of her eye she sees a curtain be pulled back and then quickly placed back. The sound of footsteps comes closer as who she assumed to be her future partner come to the door. However Brown is only to be met with nothing. Brown's eyebrows furrow and her eyes narrow 'who on Earth answered the door?'.
"Hello?" A young sounding voice pulls Brown from her thoughts, she looks down to see a short red head with grey eyes looking up at her.
Brown tries to hide her confusion as she kneels down to her height and gives a confused and concerned look to her co-workers behind her. A faint buzzing plays In her ear as the director's voice comes through the static; "Oh yes, I forgot to mention, he has a daughter. If you didn't catch that already" And though he cannot see her, she nods to herself and scoffs as she looks up at the little girl who's head is to the side and her eyebrows are furrowed and her lips are pouted in confusion.
"Who are you lady?" The little girl asks Brown. Brown shrugs off the question for now and takes out the files and photos of the little girls father.
"Is this man here right now?" The older woman asks the child while holding up a picture of the girls assumed father.
"I asked you a question first lady" The child pushes on to retrieve an answer, arms crossed and face holding the same look as she did when Brown first noticed her at the door.
"Yes I know, but my question is more important" Brown states.
The little girl's lips turn down as her lips begin to tremble and her eyes fill to the brim with tears. "That's mean!" Brown's eyes grow large as she tries to think of what to do. Confusion fills her brain as tears begin to fall from the girls eyes and onto her plush cheeks.
I'm a state of panic she yells: "Brown! My name is Brown, but please call me Agent Brown". The noir hair coloured woman holds her hands out as if defending herself from something. Ignoring the sarcastic comments of 'She's so good with kids' and things like 'Why is she treating this kid like an adult?' she attempts to calm to crying girl down by awkwardly apologising and rubbing her shoulder.
