Eat my soul and spit me out shiny

Cover me with welts and bruises

I crave the lesson

Wake me up if I'm asleep for too long

Add weight if I appear too weak

I crave the attention

For misfits

For pilgrims

For vandals

Please listen

To the children scorned

And the dreams they aborted

To seekers of Sodom

And to the actions resorted

This view is distorted

To those who see acceptance synonomous with contortion

I ask you

Have those storms ever stopped growing

Have those snakes beneath our skin givin up an inch

Has that fire died

Are those blisters healed

The ones that bubble and poison our hearts

Grow more wretchedly bulbous

Festering with the pus of every

You're not good enough

To every razor I held to my wrist

every heart I cannot mend

Every weeping shadow I cannot soothe

And to every embrace I refused

Who say the lifelines are dead

stuffed in a box and stinking of rot

wolves run in packs

rank saliva coating yellowed teeth

red eyes smoldering

wolves run in packs

transforming streets to drainage canals

stained brown with blood running off into the ocean

to those who've imprisoned belief within a bullet casing

to those with pasts worth erasing

I offer you this

I fashioned a scalpel from a pen and paper

Cut the dead flesh from my arm

To see if my intentions were tattooed on the living tissue

Maybe it was there but I could only make out a single vein amongst the chaos

It was connected to a bone

The bone, connected to a muscle

Muscle to a nerve

Nerve to the brain

The brain to a single strand of golden thread

Rising up from its anchorage and becoming tangled in the stars

At first I thought it was a puppet string

I could almost make out the shadow of a hand

I clenched my fist

Was about to scream when I felt it

The shock shot down the thread

The thread jerked the brain

The brain pinched a nerve

Nerve to muscle

Muscle to bone

Bone to vein

The vein beat furiously

pulsing in morse code

screaming

I love you

I cannot say that enough

I love you

This was how it had to be

I'm not coming back I never left

I just couldn't grab your attention

You forgot the dialect of your soul

Demons succeeded in winning your affection

Ill pierce the ear you lent me with some wisdom

You need to grab your backbone

There are some problems that need dealin'

Fashion it into a shovel

There are some holes that need fillin'

I would have never granted you ears

If I didn't intend for you to listen

And if there wasn't beauty in this world

I wouldn't have granted you eyes

Use your senses you can smell the disguise

Taste the lies you've been fed

Don't resign to your fate

The only time your image will be permanent

Is when it's fragmented from a eulogy and charred on a tombstone

You have free will

It's not how you change

It's that your always willing to change

And if you get lost

I'll be here

It's my job.
