[Insert title Here]

The year is 2371, its been 257 years since it began. I wasn't there for for the beginning, but my family was. It was told to my mother by the generations before her.This story is about how it started and what lead to me writing this story.

CHAPTER 1

My Great grandfather was a sharpshooter in the 4th division. He was acting as a scout for the rest of his team, while they serviced a planet that was just discovered. But, it was soon found that they were not the only ones on the planet. They were pinned downed into what the natives called The Valley of the Fallen. There was gun fire everywhere, then suddenly there was a loud bang and everything fell silent. My gradfather couldn't find anything left of the natives, but suddenly in the distances there was a conjuration of dust and smoke. He radioed his commander and said, "Sir, be advised you got movement 3 clicks to your north, I suggest taking cover." The Commander replied "Dante, I see nothing from my current location." They began to take up postion in a building ruined by the previous confrontation with the natives. Then out of no where there was a loud 'bang' and we all watched the commander drop to the floor, it felt like forever before someone responded to the incident. Then over the radio a petty officer claimed "Dante, sir. Your in charge now, what are your orders?" Dante immediately began to bark orders over the NAV. He sent unit updates to his superior, who was 40 clicks south of his location. He ordered his squad to take up position in the ruined building, but they were heavily outnumbered by these tall stocky creatures who stand at approximately 8 feet tall, they had black armored suits which blended them in to the darkness of the night. Dante watched helplessly as his new squadmates were overrun and slaughtered. He had nothing to do but retreat back to the ship.

What started off as a mere planetary sweep of an abandonded planet turned into a blood bath with 1213 casualities. Dante later found out that his batallion wasn't the only one on the planet to be slaughtered. There were 27 other batallions, each holding 9 squads, a total of 45 fully capable and fully equiped soldiers in each batallion. Dante and one rookie were the only ones to get off the planet alive. They evacuated and headed straight for home. They arrived at 0718 hours. They immediately were debriefed and examined for trauma. Dante was released with minor mental shock, but for the rookie, he killed himself in the med bay, put a round straight through his head.

My great grandfather was awarded with a purple heart, but he argued on how he didnt deserve it. I now wear his purple heart around my neck to remind myself of those men who died on that day.

~~~~~~~~
My name is Val, I am the leader of the resistance, we call ourselves Cychreus. We were forced down to the underground caverns of Earth. Every night we hear the screams of our own within the caverns. We have named their race Cychreides.
~~~~~~~~

01/19/2371: Tonight I was awakened by the screaming of my men, "They're here!" I ran to my rifle and began to search for my squad. They were nowhere to be seen. I tried my radio, but it was all static. Just when I thought I was alone, Daniel, Jade, and Mace entered my room. "Daniel, How many of us are left?" He remained silent. Mace Gesture to me asking how many guns do we have access too. Mace had ripped out his own tonuge when he was alone in the Forest of The Damned. I said "There are 5 automatics, 3 snipers, and 2 side arms in my arms locker." Him and Jade began emptying the locker when one of the Cychreides entered into my room and screamed, it began to lift its rifle up towards Daniel. I slammed into it, knocking it on the ground, firing an entire clip into its cranium.

We barely got to the stronghold. They were all around us... God just so many... We got banged up pretty badly, Daniel might not make it, he was shot a few times in the retreat. We need to find some sort of doctor to help him, were praying that there is still one left alive. He's the closest thing I have left to a family. We met up with another squad at a stronghold and are leaving Daniel here with their doctor as we plan on going back to the caverns and taking the fight to them.

1/21/2371 0217: This morning the stronghold went under seige. They fought like animals... a few of us are starting to suffer from paranoia. I'm just glad that Jade and Mace are still alive; although Mace had a close call with a few of their grunts. Luckily he was still with the squad with which we joined up with.

1837: We have been forced into the church in the middle of the city. There are far more civilians then there are of us left in both squads.

2142: Jade and I have moved up to the top of the church with a couple of snipers.

2313: While patroling our surroundings a bullet flew in and tore through my shoulder. With as much strength as I could muster I pulled jade down to the ground just as a bullet flew through where she was standing. Jade was able to quickly wrap up my shoulder and we quickly rushed down the stairs to check on the others.

2324: We have all the civilians gathered together. I asked "Do any of you happen to know how to handle a firearm?" the room stayed silent. "well, today you will all learn how to fire fireams." Jade assisted me in passing out weapons and assigning postions.

01/20/2371 0800: Once we got everyone in postion we were capable of holding them at bay, but more and more of them kept coming. I tried the radio to see if there were any of the resistance nearby. It felt like hours before someone finally replied on the radio, "We're on our way to your postion, sir." Thank god, finally there is hope for us now.

1100: It felt like they would never get here. Its been three hours since we've heard anything on the radio. All of a sudden, we heard a very large and deafing explosion. Many of us were knocked down by it due to the shockwave of the blast. As soon as i was able to hear everything going around me, everythings gone extremely silent. I couldn't hear Jade assigning new postions to the men, nor could i hear the Cychreides Speaking to one another in a language that i couldnt understand. Everything was clouded, but suddenly there was big man standing apporixmently 7 foot 4. I asked "Are you the one on the radio?" He replied with a simple nod of his head and said "seemed like you really needed us".
