Less than anything else on the face of the earth, you wanted anyone to be aware of your dread of lightning. The sound of raging sky sent chills down your spine, your heart raced and skin went stiff, limbs felt dull, as if they didn’t belong to you, eyes opened widely and irises shrunk in fear, mouth released no sound, chest rose and fell again as soft pants escaped your bloodied lips. As you held your flesh in between your teeth, you unconsciously bit through the thin layer, causing the crimson liquid to spread across your lower lip, your hands balled into fists and clenched until your knuckles turned white. Yes, that’s how afraid you were of the thunder.
Your small frame started to hopelessly nuzzle to the body lying next to you, your slender fingers crept to the edges of the pillow, trying to slip it from underneath the rich-wine strands of hair of your boyfriend in order to cover your head and ears completely. As you pulled the comforter out, Rin’s head fell to the hard mattress, creating a somewhat loud bang.
“Ghh..” He groaned into the sheets, his hand reaching for the crown on his head. You took a deep breath in, not to emit any sound, but you couldn’t help the buzzing of your body. You yanked yourself away from Rin, blanketing the pillow over your eyes.
“(f/n)… (f/n), you know I cannot sleep without a pillow, give that back.” He mumbled in a sleepy tone as he rolled his face to the side. At the moment, you were staying in Samezuka, the roommate of your beloved was currently away and it was approximately three in the morning, the weather outside was menacing and gloomy. The pit of darkness outside the window was momentarily being lit up by the flash of the lightning accompanied by the loud growls of the wicked sky.
“Y-yeah, sorry..” You whispered in reply whilst quietly handing him the comforter he couldn’t last long without.
“What are you whining about, come here.” He seized your waist and brought you closer, cupping your small body with the whole his, his arms wrapped tightly around you and chin rested on the back of your had. You folded your knees, nearly hugging them to your chest, at last, you couldn’t hold the air anymore and yelped. Your hand fled to your mouth, quietening yourself as you could manage, yet, Rin could still sniff out something abnormal about your behavior. “What’s wrong?” He questioned, starting to stroke the side of your head. His fingers gently ran over your silky (h/c) hair.
Suddenly, a downfall toggled and the raindrops started drumming noisily on the glass, hearing the rain, tears crawled out of the corners of your eyes and goosebumps covered your entire skin. “Are you crying? (f/n)?” Rin winced, sitting bolt upwards on the bunk. He held you by shoulders and pulled you up, forcefully making you look him in the face. You kept your eyes shut, eyebrows bent. “Look at me, (f/n).” He commanded gently, slightly shaking you.
“I’m okay!” You shrieked in a whisper, now rubbing your cheeks with your fists.
“W-what’s wrong?” The shark-boy asked worriedly, cupping your face in his big hands.
“Nothing is, really!” You vowed, but never did he believe you even for a second. Suddenly, the thunder struck again, and as a flash flooded the room, you bumped your head into the chest of your boyfriend, releasing a brief scream.
Rin tightened his hold of you, soothing your forehead with kisses whilst muttering sweet nothings into your ears. “Are you afraid of the lightning? Is that it?” He cocked a brow, once again jiggling you in his arms to get your full attention. You hesitantly nodded, your cheeks started to boil from the embarrassment.
The sharp teeth unsheathed in a toothy grin and chuckles escaped his mouth, slowly outgrowing into a loud laughter. “Are you serious?” He asked in between the quickened from laughing breaths.
“Jerk! That’s why I didn’t want you to know!” You shrieked in his face as you pushed his shoulder.
“Calm down, I’m kidding.” He said in a gentle tone. The palms of his hands were now holding the back of your head, slowly shortening the distance between your faces. “You’re with me, so you don’t need to be afraid, is that clear?” He asked , locking his cherry eyes with your (eye/c) own.
“It is..” You chirped, trying to hug him back when suddenly he transferred you over his body, laying you between himself and a wall, it felt like he was all around you, the warmth he was giving off traveled across your skin, easing down your insane heartbeat and making the fear fade away. As you grew calmer, he planted a hot kiss on your neck and nuzzled to your side, holding you by waist while his other hand was resting under his head.
“Ah, Rin---“ You gestured to the only pillow on the bunk which was currently laid under your pate.
“It’s okay, if the sound’s disturbing you, use it.” He said. His eyelids covered his eyes and he slowly drifted off to sleep. His silent snores tickled your neck, causing you to giggle quietly. You stared at his sleeping face for a while before pecking his cheek. Only then did you realize that you’d been ignoring the raging thunder for sometime now, and it was thanks to Rin that you got your focus off the dreadful weather. You comforted yourself beside your boyfriend, a small smile stretched on your lips as you shut your eyes halfway.
“Thank you, Rin.” You said, more to yourself than to the sleeping boy.
“No problem.. Sleep tight, I love you.” You heard him say as his voice faded into a slumber again.
