My slumber endured even as my somber eyes were open. I yanked open the drapes, hoping the sun sluicing through the windows will pull me out of my langour.

Perusing outside my window, I spot a teenager, staring into a bakery's window. Perhaps a teenager. Perhaps an adult. A very young adult maybe. I wouldn't know.

He had a cherubic face, a child-like resemblance and a smile that could probably ease the darkest sides to people. His eyes were a resolute colour of an artful combination of blue, grey and green. His eyebrows were knit together in contemplation as he tried to decide between a croissant and a baguette.  My mordant self would probably perceive a croissant and a baguette to be the same.

He looked up, towards me. My eyes widen in realization  and I close the drapes. My breath synchronous to my racing heartbeat.

I peek through my curtain only to find him gone.

I sigh.
