A week had passed since the night Gabe arrived in LA, and suddenly it was like the nothing ever changed. He was hitting her again, criticizing her every move and her eating disorder was back, as she tried to take control of the one thing in her life that she could. Her friends all alienated her, Gabe told her what she could and could do, her life was completely falling to shambles, but at least she could control what she ate, or didn't.She nervously picked at her hands, hiding away in the back corner of the packed studio, praying to not get called for a solo. She watched in front of her as Sean and Tate held hands, leaning on each other as they watched Jade perfect Jojo's choreography. It had taken three days for Sean to move on, and to ask out the girl that had bullied Kaycee.
As Kaycee watched the couple interact and giggle with each other, she couldn't help but compare herself to Tate. It had taken Sean weeks to ask Kaycee out, but it took three days to ask Tate out, so surely she had something Kaycee didn't. She was tall and skinny, and was gorgeously tan, a true Californian girl. Kaycee on the other hand was just a short, awkward girl with trust issues.
When Jade finished, Jojo scanned the room before her eyes landed on a familiar head of curly hair, one she hadn't seen in class in a while.
"And next up, lets get Kaycee Rice out here!" Kaycee's head snapped up at that as she dragged her aching body up to the center of the floor.
She felt everyone's eyes on her as she walked to the front of the room, keeping her head down.
"She only gets solos because she's Jojo's favorite, shes not even that good." She heard Tate say as she passed by, a unnoticed tear slid down Kaycee's cheek as Sean's laughter filled the air.
She walked to the center of the floor, thankful that this was an emotional routine so nobody would question her crying. The music started and Kaycee let herself go.
Someday I won't be afraid of my head
Someday I will not be chained to my bed
Someday I'll forget the day he left
But surely not todayThe song was about what she was going through but she didn't think the day that she would move on would ever come. Her body hurt as she went through the choreography, but she was quickly growing numb to the pain.
No matter how much Gabe hurt her, nothing hurt more than Sean leaving.
She finished her solo sadly and Jojo pulled her into her arms before letting her return to her little corner.
Gabe, having watched her dance and followed her to the corner, ready to criticize the small girl."Wow you have really digressed, haven't you. Maybe dancing isn't your thing anymore, babe" he taunted wrapping an arm around her waist, possessively, squeezing her hard. She winced in pain before he let her go, shoving past her to to talk to another girl.
She sighed, turning her attention to where Jojo had called Sean and Tate up to perform the piece. The two went through the routine, executing the steps perfectly, however the routine was still missing something. They lacked chemistry, and performed like two soloists instead of as a unit.
Kaycee politely clapped after they performed and watched as Sean pulled Tate into one of his classic head hugs, the same one that he used to pull her into.
"That was great guys!" Jojo announced, looking unsatisfied. "Sean can you stay there, please. Kaycee can you come back out?"
Kaycee shot up, walking towards them cautiously. She could practically feel Gabe and Tate's eyes burning holes into her back.
"I know you didn't practice it as a duet, but I know you guys will be fine. I want you to start facing each other and Sean I want you to leave her at the end, be cold Sean. Kaycee, I want you to want him, but when he leaves, you let him go okay. I want it to almost be like you're giving up."
