~A month later~ ~Nyx's POV~
Graduation had finally rolled around.
Diana and I were at the school, helping set up the chairs and photo backdrop by the stage.I heard the door open. I looked over, and saw Christian,Mitchel and Clinton walk in,followed by my old teacher, Misses Rose, and her baby son. She looked at us,and grinned.
She walked over. "You excited ladies?" She asked, with a bright smile. "Yea! Feels good!" Diana beamed. "Agreed!" I beamed! "I'm so proud of you both!" She replied excitedly!
We talked for awhile, then she walked out again. We finished setting up, then I sat on the stage with Diana. She rubbed my back. "I hate Graduation." I breathed. "I know Hun... It'll be okay. You have me! And then when we go home... You have Christian, and I have Mitchel." "And all of us can hang out." Diana murmured.
I hugged her. "You're right. I can do this." I replied.
~Later that night~
"Ladies and Gentlemen. Mom's and dad's,and dear Friends... No one is young forever.. and we are all here today,to witness that." "Today,we watch our brothers, sisters, loved ones, and best friends... Go from young adult,to full adults..." "Moving on from basic nine to five jobs, such as your local diner... To something greater.." "perhaps something they've dreamed since childhood.. and yes,I'll admit, that is quite scary to watch... But there's not much we can do about it.." "every bird must fly from the nest... Sooner or later. So here we have some of our students, who will be speaking about their experiences."
"So I'll take my seat, and leave you to enjoy." Christian spoke to the crowd. He sat down.I walked to the podium.
"Good evening, everybody. My Name is Nyx Rosslynn." I introduced myself.
I looked at my paper I wrote, and smiled. "College is something I've debated since Summer before Freshman year of high school. And I know you're asking why..." "It's because my parents pushed me to. They constantly pushed me to be my best... And for that,I am thankful." "But I went in blind... I thought it'd be like the movies, and it really wasn't. There was a lot of struggle..." "And it was Especially difficult because I am twenty-one and I have depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder." "So yes my voice may shake like my hands... And I may cry like you watching us,your babies, grow up just a little too fast..." "But that is part of my best. The struggle... Because in all honesty, that is the most Beautiful part of it.." "I have learned so much about myself... And to be blunt... What my parents taught me..." "Didn't help or become handy at any point here... But that's okay. Those two words... That's okay..." "I've told myself one too many times when it wasn't okay... But I'll give you a secret on how it became okay when things weren't right.." "I had a team behind me... When I call your name... Please stand."
"Diana Rose. Mister Anthony. Misses Rose. Grace Rosslynn. Christina Grace." I said. My Aunt,my mom,my best friend Diana,my teacher Misses Rose, and Christian, stood.
"These beautiful individuals... My Aunt,my mom,my amazing Best friend, who I consider my sister... My teachers..." "They helped pick me up, dust me off,and held my hand when I was scared, and hopeless, and thought I was alone..." "Please give them a round of applause." I stated. Everyone cheered and whistled for a few minutes, then they sat.
"You see... It is never about yourself... It's about what you learn about yourself. Your abilities and disabilities. What you learn from your flaws and mistakes." "So yes I may be an adult... But I don't know myself fully yet... I still have so much to learn, just like the rest of you.." "In the real world, it's about the teams and individuals, who come and go or stay in your life... To help you grow a little and learn,a little more, each day."
"So when I leave today... Please don't be upset,Just cause this chapter is done..." "Please smile and turn the page... Cause an even greater chapter awaits you... Just like my next chapter, awaits me." I spoke. The crowd stood and cheered and whistled and clapped. I bowed, and went back to my seat.
