"I'm sorry about this Leila," April had the audacity to say as she handed you one of your bags. This bitch. You took the bag from her and put in the U-Haul Cargo Van ignoring her fake sympathy.
"It's nothing personal; I just have to look out for myself, you get it right," she said. You rolled your eyes and nodded.
"I get it. It's a cold ass world, thanks for reminding me," you added digging into your pocket for the van keys.
"Don't be like that," April began.
"Don't worry, your slutty ways won't be talked about, hell I won't even utter a word about the coke. Your secret is safe with me." You eluded before bending to pick up one of the remaining four boxes.
"Leila."
"Don't worry you can also keep the money you owe me because you went on a coke bender and spent all your half of the rent. It's cool. Just know karma is a bitch...bitch," you cooly said. She looked paler than usual. She was speechless but also looked shameful.
"Bye bitch," you said.
She turned and walked away back to the entrance to the building. You shook your head annoyed with the day already. You continued to put the rest of the items in the van before you started your drive to Brooklyn. Kayla was kind enough to let you have her couch for however long you wanted it. You told her it would only be a few weeks so you could figure some things out and bank your cash. You honestly had no idea what you were going to do. So much of your life had revolved around med school. You planned everything around it. You loaded the last box and shut the van doors one at a time. When you closed the second door, you saw him standing there. You nearly jumped out your skin.
"Shit!"
He stepped back with his hands high to show he wasn't a threat.
All he said was; "Easy."
You just stood there shocked. You never expected to see him again. How did he find you?
"My name is T. I wanted to make sure you were okay after your ordeal," he explained.
You didn't speak you just stood there staring at him as if he had two heads. You were still stuck on how he found you.
"I also wanted to give back to you." He held out a golden chain.
Your eyes dropped to it, and you felt some hope. Your mother's necklace. The only thing you had left of her. It was the last thing she gave you before her fatal car accident that took her life when you were twelve. You reached out for it and took it from his outstretched hand.
"I found it in the alley; I believe you dropped it in the commotion."
You felt tears in your eyes, and you did your best to contain them. Ever since you lost it you felt lost; you felt alone. You touched the pendant and thought of your mother's beautiful face, her lite brown almond shaped eyes, and jet black hair. You smile to yourself at the memory.
"I also wanted to apologize for any inappropriateness that was perceived that night. It was not my intention. I was trying to help. I didn't mean any disrespect to you or your person," T explained.
You finally looked to him with tear-filled eyes, taking him in. He was dressed in a suit; it was similar to the one he wore to the lecture at the university. This one though was black, white and grey checked, he paired it with a blue, and black plaid tie. You looked down the planes of his body. The suit fit him well, he looked like he belonged in a suit, but the muscular fill of his shoulders and biceps also made you believe he belonged naked too. In that split second you wondered what he looked like naked.
